Church of the Highlands

I attended Church of the Highlands in Montgomery for the first time in February 2014. I was nervous to even go to this new church because I had been in a southern Baptist church since fifth grade. Let me just tell you that that church is life changing. They opened the doors and they greet you with smiles and handshakes. I was in awe. I have never felt so welcomed before in my entire life. They make you feel at home there.

They are really big into small groups and I love it! Small groups happen in the Fall, Spring, and Summer. I've met so many great friends doing small groups. I was in a small group this past summer and it was an awesome decision to go through the small group! I had the best small group leader ever and she's a role model in my life.

They also have many conferences such as Recreate which is a women's conference; Motion which is a huge conference for junior high, high school and college students. Motion has a ton of big name speakers and music artists. Catalyst is another conference for men and the best conference of all is Freedom Retreat. You go through a 13 week bible study breaking free from different things that you're facing throughout life. I went to this conference last December. It's overwhelming, but it's so worth going to it!

The picture above is from the Freedom Conference last semester. I encourage you to go through the small group if you want to break free from stuff you're going through and facing!

There is a group called ONE for college students that meets on Thursday nights at 8:00 to worship and hear a good word from different speakers. It's just another awesome thing the church offers!

Once a year in July they every campus does something called SERVE Day. It's where you do different projects around your community whether it be mowing someone's yard, feeding the homeless, or just simply walking around parks and sharing the love of Christ.

Me and my sister got to serve lunch to the Montgomery Police station and it was a super humbling experience.

Highlands offers something called the Growth Track to become a member of the church, to learn more about the history of the church, to find out your God given talents and the very last part is getting trained to be on a serve team of your choice. You can be on the greeter team, the parking team, the worship team, (if you can sing, I can't lol), the nursery/ preschool team, and many other teams.

Last, but not least, they have an event called the Dream Team party where they honor everyone that serves in the church. It's a super cool event too!

If you don't have a church home you are ALWAYS welcome at Church of the Highlands! They have 13 campuses and an online campus. They are currently in the process of building a Montgomery campus which will be finished in the spring of next year!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Being sick in college is really tough and definitely not a fun experience. Here are the 15 stages that everyone ends up going through when they are sick at college.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
