Last spring break, the sky fell.
To this day I'm still not really sure what we saw. Maybe a falling star? Maybe a meteorite? Aliens?
It was spring break of last year. I had driven from Tuscaloosa, Alabama to Valdosta, Georgia to see my boyfriend, Erik. I can't remember what night we went out, but he wanted to show me this rose garden that was on campus.
We left his apartment probably around 11:30pm-12am in search of this garden. So naturally, we strolled around campus and talked and took our merry time getting to it. To my despair, there were no roses in the garden, but a bunch of tall trees. If I can remember right, they kind of looked like Christmas tree; a fir tree if I can remember what my dad told me. He has a forestry degree so I've grown up listening to him tell me what types of tree this tree is or that one. Erik picked me a flower off of another tree to make up for no roses.
We sat there walking in between these fir trees when we saw it. I barely caught it out of the corner of my eye. I had almost missed it. One of the trees blocked my view.
We were talking one second and then completely silent the next because this huge ball of blue that was falling from the sky. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and jumped around the tree to see it clearer. A huge bright blue ball of light. I mean vibrant blue against the black night sky. There was no trail following behind it. It just fell. A blue orb.
This ball of blue fell straight down for about five seconds. I mean exactly straight down- no angle to its path at all. It was in the air for what seemed like forever but nothing all at the same time. As it disappeared behind the trees way off in the distance we braced for what we thought would be some kind of explosion. But there was no light. No sound. It just fell straight to the Earth and disappeared quietly.
We stood there paralyzed by what we had just seen. Our brains sat there comprehending what we saw. We snapped out of it a couple seconds later and we stared at each other wide-eyed and started screaming at each other. "What was that?" "Did you see that?". We had both seen it so one of us wasn't crazy. But maybe we both were.
We ran through campus and back to his truck. I placed my flower he picked me on his dash and we sped out of the parking lot in search of the ruins we thought this ball of blue had caused. We went down back streets and around and through neighborhoods. This ball of light had to be either right up on us or miles away. If it was miles away from us and we saw it looking like it was going to fall and hit us, we knew this thing was huge.
We found no damage. No ruins. No fire. We expected a crater, but we didn't find one. This thing just fell and then disappeared into thin air. We tried to tell people, they just kind of nodded their head and said "woah, thats crazy." No one really believed us except Erik's dad, which I love about him. John Lee, I call him J.L.
Maybe it was aliens. So if they take over soon, just know we saw them land last spring.
To show you kind of what we saw:
This is blue like the one we saw, but ours fell exactly straight down and lasted longer than this one.
This one is more like it, except picture it vibrant blue and bigger.
