Growing up you've always viewed the world as beautiful, and everyone around you was also beautiful. As you get older you start to get into social media and see all the different aspects of beauty. Society puts such a high standard on what "beauty" really is and it deeply impacts us all, men and women. So here's my theory.
In today's society, it's all about celebrities and making the world a "better place." We all have a favorite celebrity; whether it's Harry Styles, Kylie Jenner, Justin Bieber, Beyoncé, Channing Tatum, Rihanna, Zac Efron, Taylor Swift, Zayn Malik, and the list goes on. We all have that one role model (mom, dad, aunt, guardian, etc. included) that we look up to and appreciate for everything they are. We embrace their charming personalities, their styles, their individualities, their bodies, their sass, their smiles, and so much more. You can pick out the littlest things that make us fall in love with them; like their not so perfect stomachs, their little muffin tops, their contagious laugh, their beautiful curves, the little beauty marks on their body, the dimples on their cheeks, their effortless looks, their skin, or the tattoos that cover their body. We all appreciate these little things so much that we fall in love with the rest of them, but we don't look at ourselves the same way. You're amazing at being you and so many others see and recognize your worth. You idolize celebrities from their imperfections but you don't do that for yourself.
The definition of beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. Beauty's definition combines all these aspects, so why can't society. So many celebrities encourage self-worth, yet no one listens. If Beyoncé says we're all beautiful, while the world is gushing over her words a handful of us won't take into consideration that we are, in fact, beautiful.
As a society we have to lift each other up; the things you dislike about yourself are what makes others fall for you. You see the imperfections in your favorite celebrity and make them beautiful, so why can't you do that with yourself? Stomp out this standard and enjoy being you, not the way society wants you to be, but the real you.
Whether you know it or not, you're perfect in your own way.
