Brothers are complicated. As sisters, they can expect a lot out of their brothers, probably more than they should; but sisters look up to their brothers, whether your brother be younger or older. As a sister, your brother is your one glimpse into the male perspective that you can actually understand. As a sister, you are obligated to take your brother's side, no matter if you actually are on his side or not. As a sister, you expect your brother to be the one exception to all of the things that women find wrong with guys. We expect a lot. Siblings can sometimes tend to drift apart, forgetting just how easy life was when we didn't have responsibility or worry. As sisters, there are things we want our brothers to realize.
Be better.
Be better than the jerks you've seen your sisters cry over. As brothers, you know just how badly words can hurt someone. Treat women with respect, treat women with compassion; and above all, never forget that you are your sister's hero. Don't let them down, be someone they are proud of.
You are my best friend.
It's hard to realize during the bratty years of the brother-sister relationship, but there is no bond stronger than a brother and sister. You've kept each other's secrets, know what happens behind closed doors, and no matter the distance between you, they are the only person in the world who won't judge you for your mistakes.
I love you, even when I hate you.
It's easy to get upset with your brother, especially because you are one of the only people in the world that realize just how great he can be; so when he doesn't realize that, he can be frustrating. Fighting with your brother is really easy, almost to easy. You know each other's weaknesses and you know what's going to hurt the most; but no matter how mad you get, it can never last long.
Thank you for sticking up for me.
Siblings always have those times when one sibling might be feeling down, being attacked, or your parents might be a little harder on you than you feel you deserve. Thank you to my brother, who will always be the first person to come to my rescue when I need you, or tag-teaming mom and dad when they're being a little to harsh; thank you for when you calmly tell my friends to ease up when they take a joke to far; and thank you for asking me if I'm alright when my voice sounds a little more hesitant.
My number-one fan.
We always need a cheerleader. When we get an A on a test, when we win an award, when we accomplish a goal, even when we're just in a happy mood. He may not always be the first one to congratulate me, but I know he's proud. He's there when I need to vent, and he's there to give me a reality check.
Brothers are strength, they are stability, they are a best friend. Not everyone remembers how important family is because family will always be there, it's not necessary to thank them for everything they do every day. But letting your brother know how important he is once in a blue moon really makes you realize how important he is.
