Have you ever seen the movie "My Big Fat Greek Wedding?" Imagine the craziness of that movie, plus too many cousins to count, and that everyone is Italian. Yup, you guessed right, that's my family for you. If you're questioning if your family is anything like a stereotypical Italian family, here are 20 things that everyone in my situation can understand.
With the upcoming holidays most children of Italian families prepare themselves for the thousands of questions that every family member is going to ask.
Grandma:
"Do you eat enough at school?"
"Is the food good?"
"Have you eaten any pasta?"
"Are you being careful?"
"Do you come back to your dorm early?"
"Do you have any friends?"
"Where do your friends live?"
Crazy Aunt:
"How many bars have you been to?"
"Do you need any alcohol?"
"Have you meet any nice European boys?"
"I would love to go back to college. Do you need any company?"
"Don't forget to call me. I like to hear the gossip!"
Grandpa:
"Do they teach Italian architecture?"
"Have you been studying anything about Italy?"
"Did you know that everything stems of off Italy and the Italians? Have they taught you that in school yet?"
"Do you want to major in Art History?"
Concerned Baby Cousin:
"Do you have any friends?"
"Are your friends nice? Do you think that they would want to play soccer with me?"
"Is it fun?"
"Do you like it?"
"Have you gotten in trouble?"
Distant Cousin:
"The last time that I saw you you were just a little girl. Where did the time go?"
"Where do you go to school?"
"What are you majoring in?"
"What do you want to do with your life?"
"Have you gotten a citation yet?"
"Isn't college awesome?"
Yes, everyone from an Italian family will be asked questions, and, yes, you have to answer all of them.
Although my family may be loud, crazy, obnoxious, and overall stereotypical I would not change them for the world. My "Big Fat Italian Family" makes me who I am today and if I had the option to change it all I wouldn't for the world.
