To My Best Friend's Family

Family isn't always blood.

To my second family(ies),

You guys have watched me grow up and somehow you still accept me today. I've been on your family Christmas card, we've gone on 18-hour road trips and have flown halfway across the country together. With that, here are just a few things I want to thank you for.

Thank you for taking me in as one of your own. Whenever I need to escape or just get away, you guys always welcomed me. I can walk into your house unannounced and you don't think anything of it.

Thank you for including me in your family vacations and holiday festivities. I know all of your relatives and feel as if I'm related to them as well.

Thank you for allowing me to hang out in your house, sometimes even when no one is home. I truly feel just as comfortable in your home as I do in mine. I know the special "smell" of your house and all of the nooks and crannies.

Thank you for always setting a plate for me. Whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, I am included in the delicious meals without a second thought.

Thank you for driving me around before I was able to drive myself and even after I got my license.

Thank you for keeping me in mind when you are shopping. You know my tastes just as well as my mom.

Thank you to my other siblings for accepting me into your family. I fight with you and love you as if we were related by blood.

Thank you for being there for me from when I was a youngster, through my awkward years, while I graduated high school, trying to survive college and everything else the future may bring.

While I haven't been around as much lately due to my attempt to grow up, thank you for remaining constant. I can still walk into your house unannounced, hang out when no one is home, go on vacations and attend your family functions. I wouldn't be who I am today without a crazy family like you.

18 Things I Want To Do Now That I'm 18

I'm technically an adult, so I'm legally required to live a little, right?

For the entirety of my high school career, I was always seen as the goody-two-shoes. I never got in trouble with a teacher, I kept stellar grades, and when I wasn't doing extracurricular activities, I was at home studying. Even when I did go out, it was usually with a bunch of fellow band geeks. The night would end before 11:00 PM and the only controversial activity would be a fight based on who unfairly won a round of Apples-to-Apples when someone else clearly had a better card (I promise I'm not still holding a grudge).

Now that I'm officially an adult, I want to pursue some new things. I want to experience life in a way that I never allowed myself to do prior to entering college. These are the years that I'm supposed to embark on a journey of self-discovery, so what better way to do that than to create a bucket list?
