My Dog Is My Best Friend

And I'm not ashamed at all.

My Dog Is My Best Friend

Everyone has heard the phrase, "A dog is man's woman's best friend," and boy, they are right! I adopted a sweet, little runt of his litter from the animal shelter almost five months ago. I fall in love with Harrison more and more each day. Here are eight reasons he truly is my best friend.

1. It was love at first sight.

From the moment I saw Harrison at the animal shelter, I knew he was going to be mine. Yes, I'm talking about a dog, not a guy. I opened the door to the cage and Harrison ran to me and he has been attached ever since!

2. He cheers on the fraternity guys during their flag football games.

As a sorority girl, I am guilty of having fraternity fever (I just made that up, don't ask where it came from). I am not ashamed to admit that I was at almost every single one of the flag football games this fall. Partly to cheer on the guys, and also partly (mainly) to swoon over the cute boys playing football. Harrison, too, was always there right along side of me cheering on the boys!

3. He is always ready for an adventure.

I am the most spontaneous person. One minute I will be laying not the couch, and the next minute, I'm dragging Harrison along with me when I decide to go ride a bike on the walking bridge. Yes, this was super fun. No, it was not easy and/or a good idea whatsoever. I wouldn't really call it "riding a bike" when Harrison was running the opposite way, causing me (and the bike) to fall at least five times. I do not recommend trying this.

4. He loves Tennessee football.

Okay, I know what you're thinking, "there's no way a dog can love football," but let me stop you right there. Harry loves rooting on the Vols every Saturday. Harrison is also a huge fan of wearing his jersey to show his support for his favorite team. (Obviously I'm kidding. He hates the jersey; however, he knows it makes me happy, so he wears it.)

5. He loves me unconditionally (even when I am sratting way too hard).

No matter how ridiculous I look when I get all sratty for Lip Sync, or whatever other sorority event is, he will always be up for a great photo op. Look how adorable he is!

6. He is always down for being lazy and binge watching "The Office."

I am not ashamed whatsoever to admit that I love being lazy and watching three (or 45) episodes of "The Office." Most people would judge me for laying in bed until 4:30 p.m. and then moving to the couch until 12:30 a.m., and watching two whole seasons of "The Office" in one day; however, Harrison doesn't judge me one bit. He is always down for lazy days with me.

7. He loves Christmas as much as I do.

Christmas is my favorite holiday, and Harrison loves it almost as much as I do. He doesn't complain when I put a tacky sweater on him and force him to take a picture with me in front of the Christmas tree (and under the mistletoe).

8. He's the only man I'll ever need.

I'm single, and I know you're all wondering how that's possible, seeing as I am totally and completely normal; however, it is a reality that I face every day. Harrison is my best friend, and honestly, the only man I'll ever need. When I envision my future, I see me, Harrison, and our four kids (please realize I'm kidding about the kids part). He enjoys the same things I do and doesn't complain when I want to take 49,089,435,693 pictures until we get the perfect one to post on Instagram.

If you're lucky enough to have a fur baby, I'm sure you know most of these to be true as well. Even though they can be assholes and chew holes in our carpets, shoes, favorite shirt, and countless other things as well, they will always love us after we punish them. Give your fur baby a big 'ol hug and kiss, and maybe even a couple extra treats to show your love for them.

In case you're unaware, "resting bitch face" is the term used to describe when a person's natural, expressionless face makes it look like they are mad at the world. Whether they are walking down the street or simply spacing out thinking about what to eat for dinner, it's very easy for others to assume that this person is either upset or mad at them. Because of this, those of us with Resting Bitch Face (RBF), and especially us women, have all experienced many of the same situations and conversations, including:

We've all had a crush before. Whether it leads to something or nothing, the process has all been the same. The awkward feelings, the stalking, and the stress of trying to keep this huge secret. The feeling of becoming a total spazz is something that cannot be avoided, and the most spazzy family that can relate to this feeling is the Belcher's.

At the tender age of 18, we are bestowed with the title of “adult.” For 17 years, we live under the rules and guidelines of our parents, school, and government, and to stray from any of those rules or guidelines marks us as a rebel. At 18, though, we must choose which college we want to go to or what career we want. We are allowed and encouraged to vote. We can buy lottery tickets and cigarettes. We can drop out of school, leave our household, and do other "adult" things. At 18, we start down a path of thinking for ourselves, when for the entirety of our lives other institutions have been mandated to think and do for us.

10 Thoughts Of A 5th Year Senior

What about those of us who don't do it all in four years?

"College will be the best four years of your life" is a phrase that we have all heard growing up. College is painted as a magical place to us while we are in high school. A place you go to learn, meet your best friends and probably have the time of your life while all of this is going down. Four whirlwind years, where everything that you've known changes and you start to learn what it means to live on your own, have a job, etc. But what about those of us who don't do this all in four years? Major changes, hard courses, switching schools, career paths changing, these are just a handful of factors that could extend your four years to five, six or seven. There is nothing wrong with taking extra time to graduate, but returning as a fifth-year is a little different. Most of your best friends have most likely graduated and moved and while you may be one of the oldest undergraduates on campus, you might feel as awkward as a freshmen. A world that became home and comfortable to you is still there but it's slightly different than you've known it to be and you have to find a groove to fall into. These are thoughts you'll have as you look ahead to returning to your college campus, with a victory lap planned.
