What Would You Do If You Didn't Have The Major You Chose?

Do you ever wonder what your college experience would have been like if you chose a different major than the one you have now?

Every time I am stuck with a 10-page research paper or an annotated bibliography, I think back to that question. Sometimes I am truly grateful with being a writing major but then other times, I wish I just had an easier route. Here is my list of alternate majors and my probable responses.

If I were a Criminal Justice major...

I feel like I would really enjoy puzzles. My main focus would be trying to solve the problem to anything and everything. Even when it is not my problem. I think I would be pretty good and remembering weird laws from different states. I also would love to know about crazy crime stories and just judge them super hardcore.

If I were a History major...

I would continuously remind my friends that I have a pretty rad major. History is way cooler than people think. I'd be pretty cool at starting conversations because I would be spewing random facts about things. Also, I would probably be listening to the Hamilton soundtrack all the (like I already do).

If I were a Nursing major...

I would be doing a lot crying. 1. Because my textbooks would be so expensive and 2. Because It would be so much work. I think it is definitely worth it in the end. I know that I am saving lives and helping the world. Also, I would understand all the medical terms on Grey's Anatomy.

If I were a Music major...

Then I would never have any friends. I would have laser focus on my future performances and future auditions. I think that I would have more confidence than ever before. Also, I would show up all my friends when it comes to singing in the car.

But in the end, I love the major that I chose. Some of the other ones do not really fit with me and that is perfectly fine. Not everything in life is supposed to fit neatly into yours.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
