My 5 Things

These are the most important things to me.

My 5 Things

Through the craziness of my week, I found myself reminiscing about all the things I have to be grateful for. I have too many to count, but these are the ones I thank God for every night. It's an amazing thing to know that you are truly blessed. The word blessed does not even cover it honestly. Here are a few of the things that keep me motivated, and grounded.

1. My Family

My family includes more than the people I share similar DNA with, but the people I surround myself with every day. My parents, brothers, and grandparents are the people who raised me. Without them, I would not be the person I am today because they taught me the lessons that I needed to be a well-rounded person. They are my rocks that I always know that I can count on. My family also includes the people that have come into my life and made an impact on me. My friends are my family because they know me best. These are the people who continually keep choosing to be around me. They love me so much that through my craziness they still find reasons to keep holding me up. Family is forever.

2. My Love

He is the person who sees me at my absolute worst and loves me anyway. He has to deal with my stressful self when no one else has to. Even through the phone, I can still be moody, and ungrateful for all the things he truly does for me. He is my leaning post, because I lean on him for support. He is patient, kind, forgiving, and a Godly man. He has to give me at least a pep-talk every week to keep me motivated. He sends me random bible verses sometimes when he knows that he can not help, but God always can. I am blessed beyond measure with that man. He is my love.

3. My Sisters

These are the woman who inspire me to be all that I can be. They have taught me what being selfless really means, and I have learned through them that charity is everything. In such a selfish world charity is a bright light of hope. They have my back forever. My sisters are thousands strong, and even though I do not know them all they are still my sisters. They help me exceed my own expectations. They empower me to be myself, and the best self that I can be. They are my inspiration.

4. My College

Yes, I thank God for showing me the path to attend Northeastern State University. This school has brought me too many connections to count, and life long friends. Going to NSU is the definition of "doing college right". The community feeling you get at NSU is like no other. I never imagined me doing half of the things that I am, and I have NSU to thank for that. The staff here believes in me, even when I have lost hope. I couldn't imagine being at another school because this is my home. Forever a Riverhawk.

5. God

The reasons to thank God are forever endless. He is my friend in need, and He is my reasoning. He is my hope, and my future. He guides me even when I did not realize I needed guidance. He is everything to me, and I look to Him for protection. He is my eternity.

College is a crazy, beautiful, amazing whirlwind. It is highly popularized in television and movies, but not necessarily in the most accurate way. Yes, there's frats, dingy dorms, raging house parties—but there's also a lot that people fail to mention.

1. If you thought that you knew how to study, you're wrong.

All of your classes aren't taught every day, so professors aren't on your case constantly about reading and memorizing material. Once you get back that "questionable" first exam grade, you'll kick it into high gear and figure out what works for you

Girl With Bleached Hair

I've been a bleach blonde for over a year now, and let me tell you, it is a lifestyle. More hair appointments, longer showers, and special shampoo. But it is totally worth it!

1. Mentally preparing yourself to convince your hair dresser that white is the way to go.

2. Or the anxiety of what could go wrong by bleaching your hair at home.

3. You could either become a ginger

4. Or a pixie

5. The face you make in the mirror when you take off your towel to unveil the perfect white strands.

6. Taking a million selfies the day you bleached it, because you know your roots will be back in literally 2 days.

7. Having to get bangs or a big chop because your hair is so damaged.

8. Having orange highlights in between touch-ups.

9. Going out for a drink afterwards to debut your updated look.

Despite the struggles, you love your platinum blonde hair! You make sure Instagram knows it, too. You don't need a filter, because the color is flawless by itself!

Finals: just thinking about them gives you anxiety. Only two weeks separate you from summer, but they're the longest of the semester. I've been at this college thing for almost three and a half years, and while I thought that high school was truly the lowest point of my existence, I'm beginning to realize that it was a walk in the park. Like, I miss the days when the biggest white lie I told my parents was my made up excuse about being late for fourth period. These days, the white lies are a tad more complex, and as ashamed as I am to admit it, I've definitely told a few of these.
