My 19 Day Trip Abroad

How 19 days in Italy forever changed me

My 19 Day Trip Abroad
Rachel Klodell

I was grateful enough to travel through parts of Italy for 19 days in the month of January. Everyday was filled with a new adventure, new memories, and new endeavors in which I had to learn to conquer- even if I didn't want to.

I never knew how just 19 days could change a person, or how much we can learn over the course of just one day. Though I wouldn't say I am a completely new person, I am changed.

Looking back on it all, and the lessons I learned, and the experiences I gained, it dumbfounds me how it only takes 19 days for such amazing things to occur:

19 days of new lessons to learn.

19 days of learning new things about yourself and the world you surrond yourself in.

19 days to call almost complete strangers, family.

19 days to fall immensely in love.

And 19 days to fall immediately out of it.

If there is anything that I learned from my time abroad it's to learn to live completely, and utterly in the moment of life.

It's easy to get caught up in the ways of the world and stress out over that test in the morning, the paper that's due at midnight, or wonder how you will pay for your textbooks with the little money you possess. But life, to matter where you may be in it, always has a funny way of working out.

Remember to live within each moment, and cherish your time always.

Laugh with friends

Go on that hike

Sing and dance to your hearts content

Bestow a sight of beauty because these are the moment we forget about ourselves, and all the bad that's going on, and we become a part of all being.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.
