Must-Watch Rainy Day Movies

Rainy days have a way of making one feel like the only acceptable thing to do is curl up with a blanket and watch a really good movie. Or 4, you know, whatever. I know I appreciate a great flick and a cozy blanket when it's raining. Here are some of my personal recommendations for instances like this.

1. Practical Magic

Starring the always-spectacular Sandra Bullock, this girl power, sister-witch movie has just enough drama and fantasy to keep you occupied when the weather is gloomy.

2. Legally Blonde

A classic tale of a woman following her dreams in really great shoes. Who can say no to Elle Woods? I know I can't. Bruiser is the real hero of this story, tbh.

3. DOPE

Not for the faint of heart, but so good. This movie will leave you on the edge of your seat, asking "how did they do that?" It makes me feel so many emotions. You will probably need to go outside in the rain if you don't want anyone to see the tears.

4. The Prince and Me

I'm a sucker for a good prince IRL story. It really makes you root for these seemingly star-crossed lovers.

5. Wet Hot American Summer (the movie -- or the show, you know, whichever)

Starring Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, and Paul Rudd, this movie will keep you laughing with its quirky humor. If you like it, I recommend watching the show, which is equally funny and unique.

6. Stranger Things

Okay, so this one is cheating a little bit, because it's a show and not a movie, but I'm not sure I care, because it's that good. Reminiscent of radtastic80s movies, this thriller is sure to keep you watching longer than you probably think you signed up for. Sci-fi and teen angst and pre-teens staying out past curfew -- it's honestly the blessing you didn't even know you needed. That's a lot of action for one show, but it's seriously so well made. 10/10 would recommend, please watch it. I honestly can't rave enough about this show -- I have to stop myself here.

7. The Princess Bride

A feel-good, quest romance with action and fantasy and everything you really could ever want in a movie. Can't ask for much more when you're stuck in the house.

8. Clueless

Recommended to me by my step-mom, and let's just say I'm very grateful to her. This movie is awesome and hilarious. Cher is me and I am Cher and Cher is all of us.

9. Titanic

I don't know that I have to say anything about this. A small anecdote for you, though: the first time I saw this movie, I cried for the last 40 minutes of this movie, and then for about 30 minutes after it was over. So touching.

10. Stardust

Michelle Pfeiffer slays in this movie. It's a real gem that will make your heart sing.. but only after twisting it a few times. On the same trend with Princess Bride, I always enjoy a journey story when I'm stuck inside.

All these movies can be found on Netflix. Happy watching!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
