I was 11 years old when I first discovered "Gilmore Girls." From that point on, my life has been significantly better. I quickly fell in love with the whole Gilmore clan, but especially Rory. She was a best friend and the greatest role model a pre-teen could ask for. She showed me the importance of maintaining a healthy relationship with my mom. She taught me reading is cool and that it's OK to stay in on a Friday night. It's been nearly 10 years since I experienced my first episode and it's safe to say the obsession has only grown. Just last summer, I traveled to Austin, TX. for the "Gilmore Girls" reunion and sobbed my eyes out in the front row. I've dedicated an incredible amount of time to watching and thinking and crying about "Gilmore Girls" especially since the announcement of the Netflix revival. If you, for whatever reason, have not seen "Gilmore Girls" I have compiled a list of episodes to see before the revival airs.
1. "Pilot" Season 1, Episode 1
This one is rather obvious, but it is also an amazing pilot and definitely worth watching. It sets up the show perfectly, explaining the complicated and emotional generational dynamics between Rory, Lorelai, and Emily.
2. "Star-Crossed Lovers and Other Strangers" Season 1, Episode 16
This episode is great because with it begins the long downfall of Rory and Dean, everyone's least-favorite couple. It also highlights the kookiness of Stars Hollow, which is always fun.
3. "I Can’t Get Started" Season 2, Episode 22
One of my all time favorite episodes, "I Can't Get Started" centers around Sookie's wedding but the real drama unfolds when Christopher and Jess return in attempts to win over our girls.
4. "They Shoot Gilmore's, Don't They?" Season 3, Episode 7
Tune in for the great costumes and quirky town antics, but stay for the dramatic twist at the end.5. "Those Are Strings, Pinocchio" Season 3, Episode 22
Rory's high school graduation! Her valedictorian speech always brings me to tears because of the way she so eloquently talks about her mother.
6. "The Lorelais’ First Day At Yale" Season 4, Episode 2
First things first, no freshman dorm in the entire world looks like the suite Rory moved into. This episode is so touching in so many ways and proves that even though Rory must go to college, her relationship will Lorelai will never change.
7. "Raincoats and Recipes" Season 4, Episode 22
This is a major, must-see episode. Rory grows up in a big way and Lorelai and Luke finally make some progress on their "will they or won't they" relationship.
8. "You Jump, I Jump, Jack" Season 5, Episode 7
This is definitely my favorite episode. It brings out a new side of Rory and introduces Logan, a handsome new love interest who, most importantly, is not Dean.
9. "A Vineyard Valentine" Season 6, Episode 15
This episode is very different from most episodes. It doesn't take place in Stars Hollow or at Yale and its focus is on the two main couples as opposed to Rory and Lorelai's relationship.
10. "Partings" Season 6, Episode 22
A very sad episode for "Gilmore Girls." Not only do Rory and Lorelai face difficult decisions when it comes to their guys but it's also writer/creator/producer Amy Sherman Palladino's last episode on the show.
11. "Unto the Breach" Season 7, Episode 22
Season seven is tough without the brilliance of Amy Sherman Palladino, but I couldn't not include Rory's graduation from Yale. The whole family comes together and Rory makes some very adult decisions.
12. "Partings" Season 7, Episode 22
In the series finale, the whole town comes together to celebrate Rory's new job and to say farewell once and for all. And, of course, Lorelai and Rory enjoy one last meal at Luke's Diner.
