We are on Winter break and we get some time to watch movies and TV shows. As always when we have some free time, we don't know where to start. There are too many options, too many shows, too many films to watch.
A week ago, Hollywood Foreign Press Association announced the nominations of "Golden Globes" for the best of TV and film in 2018. I am a big fan of the "Golden Globes." Usually I like the winners of the "Golden Globes" better than the"Oscars" and "Emmys."
After checking the nominations, here are my seven suggestions for you.
1. “Bodyguard.”

"Bodyguard" is nominated for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor – Television Series Drama. I have some good comments about this TV show. Richard Madden is amazing in his role of David Budd, the bodyguard. It is always a pleasure to see Robb Stark on TV. Also, the show has great subtexts about politics, immigration, terrorism and war. "Bodyguard" is full of suspense, and the best is (at least for me) there is not any romantic story in the plot.
The show is on Netflix, and it is only six episodes.
2. “Mary Poppins Returns.”

I have to say I am a kind of skeptical about "Mary Poppins Returns." "Mary Poppins" was one of my favorites movies when I was a little girl; then, I am very picky about this revival. However, the new version got nominations for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Lin-Manuel Miranda) and Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (Emily Blunt) even before being released.
I am going to give it a chance.
3. “Murphy Brown.”

"Murphy Brown" was one of the most successful shows in the late 80s and first part of the 90s. It is a political show where an ex-alcoholic journalist tries to be the best in her job. Candice Bergen (Brown) got many records for all the nominations she had with this role. This year, the show came back to national TV with Murphy Brown, her coworkers and a handsome son. In these turbulent times, this show is more than necessary.
"Murphy Brown" had a nomination for Best Actress – Television Series Musical or Comedy. I want to add that I used to watch the show when I was a girl and I chose to become a journalist because of "Murphy Brown."
4. “Vice.”
Facebook: Vice
"Vice" is a film full of amazing actors: Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Alison Pill and Jesse Plemons. The plot is placed in George W. Bush's time, and it is about his Vice-president for eight years, Dick Cheney. The story could sound like a drama, but it is nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. It has five more nominations: Best Actor – Motion Picture Musical or Comedy (Christian Bale), Supporting Actress (Amy Adams), Supporting Actor (Sam Rockwell), Best Director and Best Screenplay (Adam McKay).
Like "Mary Poppins Returns," the film got all these nominations before being released to the movie theaters.
5. “Will & Grace.”

I am a big fan of "Will & Grace." I think it is one of the best revivals on TV; actually, I hated the season finale in 2007, so for me, this new time on TV makes sense. My favorite character is Karen Walker, but in this new edition of "Golden Globes," the nomination is for Debra Messing, Grace Adler, for Best Lead Actress in a Television Series - Comedy or Musical.
Twenty years ago, "Will & Grace" changed the TV, and I think they still make the difference.
6. “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.”

"Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is a relief inside of Marvel Universe especially after "Avengers: Infinity War." "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse" is a funny story where you have more than one Spider-Man (also, we have Spider-Pig). This film got the nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
7. “Aquaman.”

I know "Aquaman" did not get any " Golden Globe" nomination, but it is a good excuse to see Jason Momoa on the big screen. Only Khal Drogo can make "Aquaman" sexy and masculine.
There is no better plan for winter break than watch movies and TV shows with your partners, family or friend. Enjoy these weeks.
