Must-See TV Shows On Netflix

As a college kid, Netflix is an essential part of your dorm room whether it be right before class or when you're getting ready for bed, you've always got your Netflix to watch with newest show episodes. These are my Top Ten Must-Sees that are currently on Netflix.

10. Supergirl

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mh8MYFadTmQ

Stars: 4.7/5

Genres: TV Action & Adventure

Seasons: 1 Season: 20 Episodes

Stars You Might Know: Melissa Benoist (Glee), Mehcad Brooks (True Blood), Jeremy Jordan (Joyful Noise), Peter Facinelli (Twilight) and Jenna Dewan Tatum!

Netflix Summary: To advert a disaster, Kara Danvers reveals her powers and true identity: She is Superman’s cousin, now known as Supergirl, protector of National City.

WHY WATCH? Beside being a comic book series and involved in the DC brand, the great thing that I love about Supergirl is that women and young girls finally have a comic book Superhero TV Series for them to feel inspired. All the other Superhero TV shows at CW are the Flash and Arrow and finally we have a female who is a lead character wanting to be a hero. It’s fun and fluffy with a feel good attitude.

9. How I Met Your Mother

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C8-4jMTOUJI

Stars: 4.8/5

Genres: Romantic TV Shows, TV Comedy

Seasons: Completed, 9 Seasons of Wonder

Stars You Might Know: Besides the main cast, consisting of Neil Patrick Harris, Cobie Smulders (The Avengers), Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan and Jason Segel; there are so many stars that make cameos on this show that make it even better to watch. Celebrities such as Britney Spears, Lucy Hale, Katie Holmes, Rachel Bilson, J-Lo, Wayne Brady and even Regis Philbin!

Netflix Summary: Ted’s epic search for his soulmate is told largely through flashbacks, as an adult Ted recounts to his kids how he met their mother.

WHY WATCH? This show has everything from really intricate storylines that will run and connect through the whole series, catchphrases that are to die for, flashbacks, friendship and love and all around just a great plotline with awesome characters that you’ll really become invested in and feel a part of.

8. Reign

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVtDw7fpYOQ

Stars: 4.8/5

Genres: TV Drama, Teen Drama, Historical

Seasons: 3 Seasons: 22 Episodes each

Stars You Might Know: Adelaide Kane (The Purge/Teen Wolf), Torrance Coombs (The Tudors), Toby Regbo, Megan Follows and Anna Popplewell (Narnia!)

Netflix Summary: The vivid historical drama series tells the rise to power of Mary, Queen of Scots, amid a court full of sexual and political intrigue.

WHY WATCH? If you’re into historical shows such as Game of Thrones feels to it or the Tudors, this show has historical aspects but also follows a young woman who rules two countries while stuck in a love triangle of two brothers while trying to not be killed by The King and Queen of France. Another great TV show where a young woman is strong and independent and goes by her own rules.

7. Hart of Dixie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3VMQuzUZ4k

Stars: 4.6/5

Genres: Comedy/Drama

Seasons: Completed, 4 Seasons: 22 Episodes each

Netflix Summary: Fast-talking city girl Zoe Hart winds up patching up the locals of a tiny town in the Deep South when she inherits a medical practice in Alabama.

WHY WATCH? For those that love a medical show, this follows a classic storyline of a girl from the city who inherits a medical practice in a very small town in Alabama where things are set to be just so. She’s thrown into a whole different world and has to work against a man who’s been the town’s doctor for as long as anyone remembers and find her own Southern Charm. It’s quick witted and warm.

6. Quantico

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJp-BZpVBPA

Stars: 4.8/5

Genres: Crime TV Shows, TV Drama

Seasons: 1 Season so far on Netflix with 22 Episodes

Stars You Might Know: Priyanka Chopra, Jake McLaughlin, Yasmine Al Massri, Johanna Braddy (Unreal), Graham Rogers (Revolution)

Netflix Summary: When evidence in a deadly terrorist attack implicates FBI trainee Alex Parrish, she must discover which one of her classmates framed her.

WHY WATCH?: If you love crime shows where you don’t know the plot and are dying to figure out who did it, this is a show that I highly suggest. Going back and forth between the past and the present, it follows Alex Parrish between her attempting to go through Quantico (FBI training) and the present after a terrorist attack hits a large city in the United States. The cast is also strongly casted and diverse which is a refreshing aspect to the TV show and the character backgrounds.

5. The 100

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ia1Fbg96vL0

Stars: 5/5

Genres: Action & Adventure, Drama, Dystopian, Futuristic

Seasons: 2 Seasons with 16 Episodes with 3rd Season on the Way

Stars You Might Know: Eliza Taylor, Marie Avegeropoulos (I Love You, Beth Cooper), Bob Morley (Road Kill), Ricky Whittle and Lindsey Morgan (General Hospital), and Isaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy)

Netflix Summary: A century after Earth was devastated by a nuclear apocalypse, 100 space station residents are sent to the planet to determine whether it’s habitable.

WHY WATCH? Dystopian shows are always a go to for me, but with this one, I couldn’t stop and finished the seasons within three days! The show follows a group of 100 delinquents who are shipped from their space station to the ground to see if it is inhabitable to live on after 100 years of radiation. It’s an epic journey and a must watch of young adults trying to fend for themselves and survive.

4. The Ranch

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=epCvKyjH7g8

Stars: 4.8/5

Genres: Comedies, Sitcom

Seasons: 2 Seasons each with 10 Episodes

Stars You Might Know: Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson (That 70s Show), Sam Elliot (Road House) and Elisha Cuthbert (Girl Next Door and House of Wax)

Netflix Summary: Being a pro athlete didn’t pan out for Colt. Now he’s helping his dad and brother keep the ranch afloat, and figuring out how he fits into the family.

WHY WATCH? I’ve always been a sucker for Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson so when the Ranch came out on Netflix, I knew I’d be drawn to this one. With the small town charm of living in the Midwest and trying to maintain a family farm, the Ranch has a special feel to it that definitely is something to try. It’s a little bit different from regular television shows but with its small jokes and quick wit of both Kutcher, Masterson and Elliot, it really works well.

3. Grace & Frankie

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CDv6PRi1SgQ

Stars: 4.9/5

Genres: Comedies and Sitcoms

Seasons: 2 Seasons with 13 Episodes

Stars You Might Know: Jane Fonda (Monster in Law & This is Where I Leave You), Lily Tomlin, Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Martin Sheen (The West Wing, Apocalypse Now, The Departed)

Netflix Summary: They’re not friends, but when their husbands leave them for each other, proper Grace and eccentric Frankie begin to bond in this Emmy-nominated series.

WHY WATCH? This may have very well made the list because it’s my mom and I’s show to watch together when I’m home but this Emmy nominated series really is a must watch. It follows grandparents who try to restart their lives when everything changes and the comic gold of Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin is as youthful and hilarious as it probably could get. A feel good family TV show for everyone.

2. Sons of Anarchy

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FXjbllOSUnQ

Stars: 4.99/5

Genres: Crime

Seasons: Completed: 7 Seasons with 13 Episodes Each

Stars You Might Know: Charlie Hunnam (Pacific Rim & King Authur), Katey Sagal (Married with Children & Futurama), Theo Rossi (Luke Cage), Ron Perlman (Pacific Rim & Hellboy), Ryan Hurst (Remember the Titans) and Maggie Siff (The 5th Wave)

Netflix Summary: After seizing control of its town, gun-running motorcycle club the Sons of Anarchy soon butts heads with rival bikers, racist groups and the law.

WHY WATCH? If you’re looking for something a little rougher and tougher, Sons of Anarchy is a great option. The violence and motorcycle gangs of this show will keep you on your toes, always wondering what will happen next with what SamCro is getting involved in. A great cast and a sense of family with a very strong Sopranos of the Motorcycle world feel to it and on the absolute plus side, Charlie Hunnam’s back is featured in most episodes!

1.The Crown

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWtnJjn6ng0

Stars: 5/5

Genres: British TV, British TV Dramas

Seasons: 1 Season, just came out.

Stars You Might Know: Matt Smith (Doctor Who), Claire Foy (Season of the Witch), John Lithgow (Dexter, Shrek, Footloose), Vanessa Kirby (Me Before You & About Time) and Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes & The Mortal Instruments)

Netflix Summary: This drama follows the political rivalries and romance of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign and the events that shaped the second half of the 20th century.

WHY WATCH? This show just came out only a week or two ago and it has really become a number one of Netflix. Following Queen Elizabeth II take over the throne as a 25-year-old married woman with two children really gives a strong and accurate insight to the Queen’s life. Those who love documentary feel shows and historic genres would absolutely love this and the great part is that they also used a lot of real footage and studies it to the T for scenes!

Whether you're commuting or dorming, your first year of college is a huge adjustment. The transition from living with parents to being on my own was an experience I couldn't have even imagined- both a good and a bad thing. Here's a personal archive of a few of the things I learned after going away for the first time.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.

For many undergraduates across the nation, the home stretch has begun. Only one more semester remains in our undergraduate career. Oh, the places we will go! For the majority of college seniors, this is simultaneously the best and worst year out of the past four and here’s why.

1. The classes you are taking are actually difficult.

A schedule full of easy pottery throwing and film courses is merely a myth on the average campus. With all of those prerequisites for the upper-level courses and the never-ending battle you fight each year during registration for limited class seats, senior year brings with it the ability to register for the final courses you need to fulfill your major. Yet, these are not the easy entry level courses. These are the comprehensive, end of major, capstone courses designed to apply the knowledge from all your previous courses, usually in the form of an extensive research paper or engaged learning project. The upside is you actually probably really enjoy these classes but alas there is no room for slackers here.
