I live smack dab in the middle of the village of Lewiston, and I love everything about this town. When the little blue calendar book came out of events and festivals, I felt like a little kid on Christmas. That's because there's so much to do and see in Lewiston over the summer. Here's a breakdown of must-see events and activities to attend. Mark your calendars and enjoy!
1. Clam Slam
Every Monday at Water Street Landing there is this thing called clam slam. With it being $4.99 for a dozen clams, how can you go wrong? There's an outdoor patio to eat and have some cocktails with a beautiful view looking directly out onto the water. It's a must-see event to make a weekly ritual.
2. Artpark Concerts
For a complete list of Artpark concerts, see here. At $12 a ticket on Wednesday nights you can't resist! This year there is everything; a little rock, contemporary, country, blues and more. Since Artpark is my backyard, I see the energy every Tuesday and Wednesday night and it is wonderful. My personal favorites scheduled are The Barenaked Ladies on June 17-19, Bob Dylan June 30, The Band Perry on July 5 and OAR on August 3.
3. Jetboat Tour
OK, I went on this last year and it is a blast! The Jetboat tours go down to the rapids in the Niagara Gorge and zip through the crushing waters to give you one hell of an adrenaline rush and completely soak you head to toe. My advice is to bring your own shoes that are closed toe and back if you don't want to wear the water shoes that they provide. Oh and for those of you who live in Lewiston, you can get a discount when you bring proof of address!
4. 10 Mile Garage And Sidewalk Sale
This amazingly huge sale is from June 10-12. More than 100 homeowners participate in this sale throughout Lewiston, Youngstown, Ransomville and Sanborn. I personally haven't gone to this yet, but I mean 10 miles of possibly finding some treasure sounds like a great day to me.
5. Holiday Celebrations
For memorial day, there is the memorial day parade which travels down Center Street. And for the Fourth of July, if you have no plans, then the village puts on a great show! So grab a chair, set up by the water and sit back and enjoy.
6. Festivals
My personal favorite festival, which also shows the nerd in me, is the Garden Festival. This year it's from June 18-19. There is everything from garden gnomes, frogs, horses and lights, and it is just so fun. I could find a purpose for everything and I don't even have a garden, although I did buy a little light fixture to put outside my apartment complex. My other favorites this year are Music & Arts from June 17-19, and the Niagara Wine Trail Wine & Culinary Festival July 30-31. You'll find all of these set up on Center Street.
