Why do us girls love fantasy and romance novels? We love them because it's not something we experience in everyday life. We can live vicariously through the heroine and fall in love with the hero. It's a perfect example of a win-win situation.
"House of Night"
Personal Photo
Any and every girl loves books about vampires (or should I say "vampyres"?), witches, and warlocks... at least I do.
In the beginning, Teenager Zoey hates her family and her school, and isn't thrilled with her almost-ex-boyfriend and her flaky best friend, either. Then a vampyre Tracker shows up and Marks her, summoning her to the House of Night. She runs away from home, has a trippy vision of the vampyre goddess Nyx telling her she's special, and finally makes it to the House of Night, with her cool grandma's help. So here we get the sense that Zoey's life already ain't perfect, and then it gets more complicated when she becomes a potential vampyre, thus setting the scene for some action.
"Caster Chronicles"
Personal Photo
Ever feel like there's a hint of darkness within you? So does this girl.
And so it begins with the fact that Lena Duchannes is unlike anyone the small Southern town of Gatlin has ever seen, and she's struggling to conceal her power, and a curse that has haunted her family for generations. But even within the overgrown gardens, murky swamps and crumbling graveyards of the forgotten South, a secret cannot stay hidden forever.
"Twilight"
What girl didn't read this series? Gotta love vampires and wolves, right?
"Twilight", Stephenie Meyer's debut novel, tells the story of Isabella "Bella" Swan, a normal seventeen-year-old girl who falls in love with a vampire, Edward Cullen. Though Edward loves Bella deeply in return, he also battles his natural instinct to kill her. As a vampire he is, after all, hardwired to think of Bella and all other humans as his prey.
"Fallen"
Fallen angels and war? With a little twist of love and sacrifice? My kind of book.
"Fallen" is about 17-year-old Lucinda who falls in love with a gorgeous, intelligent boy, Daniel, at her new school, the grim, foreboding Sword & Cross... only to find out that Daniel is a fallen angel, and that they have spent lifetimes finding and losing one another as good & evil forces plot to keep them apart.
"Hush, Hush"
This is my favorite series. I had to save the best for last. Another series about fallen angels? Yes, please!
"Hush, Hush" begins with how Nora's bio class is on the human reproduction unit, and the bio teacher switches up the seating chart, placing Nora next to Patch. Some creepy stuff, like the feeling of an otherworldly presence hovering around, has been going on with Nora since her father's death, but when she starts interacting with Patch, things get weirder. Question is, could Patch and Nora fall in love, or is Patch the one that wants to kill her? That's something you should find out when you read it.
