In This Article:

While most people have been counting down the days until fall, tired of the heat, I am doing everything I can to hold on to the last bit of summer. I love the heat and being in nature. Hiking, kayaking, running, swimming, all of my hobbies consist of being outside. For anyone else out there who feels like this, I've created a playlist of songs that I love that, in some way or another, help me hold onto that summer feeling. Whether it be a song to listen to while hiking, a song to play in the car with the windows rolled down, I can assure you that this playlist will help you hang onto summer:

1. Born to be Wild - Steppenwolf

I love exploring and adventure of any kind, so if you, too, like a thrill, this song will get you in the mood.

2. Philomena -The Decemberists

This song is only a few years old, but it takes you to a hot summer in the 1960s.

3. Tangled Up in Blue - Bob Dylan

This song is amazing because of the story it tells. It's a perfect road-trip song, and if you find yourself connected to places you've never been, this song is easy to relate to.

4. Subterranean – David Bowie

This song is one comprised of some of the most beautiful arrangements I've ever heard. It's long, and there aren't many words...but listening to the whole thing is a surreal experience, and it's worth it. Bowie wrote and arranged this whole thing. This is what true talent sounds like.

5. Five Years – David Bowie

Five Years tells of a tragic, emotional story. The Earth is coming to an end, with only five years left, and it's told from Ziggy Stardust's point of view.

6. Me and Bobby McGee – Janis Joplin

Much like "Born to Be Wild," this song just has a rough, free-spirit sound to it.

7. Satellite of Love – Lou Reed

There is something about this song that just makes me want to play it over and over and over again. I've loved this song for a long time, but after watching "Adventureland" I always picture an amusement park while listening to this.

8. Astrovan – Mt. Joy

This is the ultimate road trip song. That's all that needs to be said about this.

9. City – Sara Bareilles

Okay, so this song doesn't go with my theme here...I'm supposed to be writing about songs that will help you hold on to summer, but I wanted to add the one song that I always listen to when I'm getting ready for fall. Picture walking to class with your headphones: crisp leaves, cool breeze running through your hair. When I listen to this, I can see pumpkins, smell the leaves, and feel the breeze. I don't know how this song does it, but it does, and I want everyone else to feel it, too.

10. I Can't Quit You Baby – Led Zeppelin

This song has some sick guitar parts, and I always blast this with my windows down. I love Led Zeppelin, and this goes for the next couple songs I added by them: Led Zeppelin gets you in the mood for adventure. These are great songs to listen to on a hike in the mountains, or kayaking.

13. Safari Song – Greta Van Fleet

Ah, Greta Van Fleet, my loves. They are the new Led Zeppelin, they are the ones who are going to successfully and gracefully re-surge rock 'n roll. Not only do their songs make you want to be in nature, their vibe and style and music videos scream "Arizona Desert." They are perfect. If you dream of going on a road trip out west and hiking the deserts and mountains and just playing good music while doing it, you'll want to marry these guys. (Jake is MINE ;) )

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
