When making a transition into the college world, there are a few must-haves that will save your life. These things will keep you on track and will ensure you have a successful journey in college. Anything to make your transition into college smoother is always a help.

1. Motivation

Number one on the list is motivation. This isn't something you can physically take with you, but having a motive to do anything gives you the push you need when times get rough. Entering college without a reason to be there is kind of useless. Whether you are pursuing a degree or trying to sharpen your skills, motivation will always be something you should have.

2. A Planner

Now, this is a must, especially if you haven't quite nailed the concept of Black Board yet. Not only is a planner good for reminding you of your assignments, but you can also organize how much time you can dedicate to certain activities during your day. You'll always be accountable if you happen to waste too much time on a particular day.

3. Backpack

Now this one might seem obvious, but often times when making the transition to college, students will try to carry their books or invest in a smaller tote bag to accommodate college fashion. I am here to tell you that a sturdy backpack will always be the right bag to choose. When you are in a rush to get to class because you happened to oversleep, fumbling around with your books and papers is one of the worst things to have to deal with.

4. Running Sneakers

No, I'm not saying you will have super hard P.E classes that will ruin your life, but walking around campus all day can be a pain if you have the wrong shoes on. A good pair of walking/running shoes can make a huge difference.

5. Water Bottle

Staying hydrated in class a must. Water can be a life saver if you are running low on energy. Most teachers will allow water in the class room if it is in a sealed bottle. If not, excuse yourself to re-hydrate.

6. Highlighters

Highlighters will turn your school notes into the most interesting looking papers ever. Highlighting your notes will automatically draw your attention to them, and you will not get bored while reading them. Having certain markings on your paper will also jog your memory when it comes time to take the test.

7. Focus

Focus is another major important aspect to have if you want to be successful. The physical things are great but if your mental is not where it is supposed to be, those potentially good grades will drop. Minimizing distractions will contribute to ultimate focus. Finding quiet places to study and asking for help when needed will make a significant difference.

College isn't easy, and I'm afraid I'm not going to make it at the rate my mental health is going.

Everyone tells you that college is hard, but they fail to explain why. Sure, classes are hard. Math sucks, and political science can be so boring. But that's not even what's killing me about college. What's killing me about college is my deterioating mental health.

As a college student, I feel as if people don't understand just how exhausted I, and fellow college students are. We have so many things going on, all the time, and sometimes it's hard to explain to people how we feel. Personally...I'm tired. I'm sad. And I'm struggling every single day with my emotions. But the thing is, it hasn't always been this way. I haven't always hated school, so why am I feeling like this now?
