Must Do's Before Graduating College

There are a ton of things that people think you should do before you graduate college. As a junior in college, here are just a few things I think are a must before you leave your university years.

1. Use your student discount every chance you get.

Soak up the perks of cheap stuff whenever it's an option. That isn't offered again until you're a senior citizen, and you've got a long way to go (I wonder if you're a senior citizen in college if you can use both discounts?).

2. Join a club or find an activity to be a part of.

This is something I've kind of bounced around on. I've joined a couple school clubs and gone to a couple different church groups. I haven't found my "place" yet, but I'm hoping I will before the end of my senior year rolls along.

3. Befriend an international student.

Even if it's just for a semester because you have a class with them, be their friend. Let them know you are happy they chose to come to that school. They will appreciate it more than you will, I promise.

4. Eat a meal by yourself in a restaurant or in the caf.

This is something I have yet to do, as well. I hate being alone. This is a good time for you to "people watch," study, or just think about whatever is on your mind. Also, just to see if anyone will ask to sit with you or offer to let you sit with them. Try it, and I'll be sure to let you know how my experience goes.

5. Make a "big kid purchase."

I still live with my parents. I have a job. I deposit a portion of each paycheck into a savings account that is off-limits and for my future. But, at some point, I need to make a big kid purchase. Whatever that purchase is, is your decision, but do it. It's a good growing opportunity, so I've heard.

6. SAVE. MONEY.

Back to using the student discount and working to make a big kid purchase, save your money. You will need it for your life after college and for you future family and the expense that come along with that. We thought college was a good time to show us, but after college, we will really learn that money does not grow on trees. #thestruggle

I am still working my way through all of these ideas, but I feel like they will really help to grow me as a person and an adult in general. Nope, we didn't "sign up" to be grown-ups, but it's coming quick, ready or not. Keep struggling your way through college, and be sure to hit each of these bumps in the road, and let me know how your experiences go. We all need advice to us through! Share your ideas of pre-graduation musts and maybe we can adopt those too!

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
