Have We Distorted It?

In modern society, there is an overwhelming obsession with technology that seems to become more prevalent with each passing day. I, myself, enjoy the benefits of technology, and yet admit that technology seems to have been distorted from its original purpose of helping people.

It is my staunch belief that throughout history, technology has served as a valuable tool to furthering the existence of the human race. From the invention of the wheel, to the invention of radio, technology has served many beneficial purposes. But recently, however, technology has taken a turn for the worse. I don't mean that cellphones are bad or anything like that, I'm talking about the existence of such technology as nuclear bombs and other horrible inventions. I am aware that nuclear bombs were derived from the rise of nuclear energy, which , in itself, is not a bad thing. I do believe that nuclear bombs were a perversion of the original intent for nuclear energy, and that such weapons of mass destruction have no real benefits to the human race in the long run, and will only cause more strife and troubles than if they did not exist.

With the dawn of the internet and the rise of personal computers, technology has been easily exploited even further. There is an entire industry of people who live to exploit the benefits of computers and hurt the people who use them, This is called hacking, and it is also a perversion of technology. There are countless other examples of the perversion of technology, from usage of technology to bully, to usage to kill when unnecessary.

I do recognize that there is no clear solution to this problem, and that it derives mostly from bad people misusing good technology, but I do think that it's time to start talking about this problem, and thinking of ways to keep it from falling into the wrong hands. If enough people act on this issue, perhaps a solution will eventually arise that is both moral and does the job right.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
