Musical Theater Review Of Damien Alix-Souhabi
The American Musical and Dramatic Academy

I recently had the pleasure of meeting Damien Alix-Souhabi, an Alum of The American Musical and Dramatic Academy, and a 26 year old native of Montreal, QC, Canada. I met Alix-Souhabi through Facebook, but knew who he was since we went to the same institution together. Through the wonders of YouTube, I was able to watch some of Alix-Souhabi's Cabaret performances, and his showcase performances. If there is one piece of information you can take away from this, it's that Alix-Souhabi is a phenomenal performer. From his voice to the specificity in his actions to the way he presents himself on stage, Alix-Souhabi is on his way to the top.

In Alix-Souhabi's showcase performance at AMDA, Alix-Souhabi performed "All I Care About" from the Broadway musical, Chicago. Alix-Souhabi also sang "People Like Us" from The Wild Party, which is a musical set in the 1920's. Both of Alix-Souhabi's performances were exceptional to say the least. In Alix-Souhabi's performance of "All I Care About" I found that he is incredibly magnetic and he takes complete control of his stage. Also, the way he transforms from Damien to the character he is portraying shows how dynamically versatile he is. In his duet, "People Like Us", he has a great connection with not only his movement but with his scene partner. The chemistry between the two actors was clearly shown.

In the past year, Alix-Souhabi performed at "Let's Broadway Cabaret Series!" At this specific cabaret, Alix-Souhabi sang "Guido's Song" from the Broadway musical, Nine. In the other two "Let's Broadway Cabaret Series!" Alix-Souhabi performed "Once In Love With Amy" from the 1948 musical, Where's Charley? The other piece performed was "Sue Me" from Guys and Doll's. The emotion behind this piece was intense to say the least. Alix-Souhabi showcased the many emotions of the character of Nathan in a matter of a few minutes. In all of his pieces that he performed, Alix-Souhabi has proved that he will have a phenomenal career.

To conclude, Alix-Souhabi is on my top ten list of the best up and coming performers. Alix-Souhabi is a dedicated and hard worker towards his craft. He takes his work very seriously and has set goals in mind to get to where he wants to go in his career. With all of his intensive training and his amazing work ethic, I believe that he is set to start performing on a big time stage.

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.

If it hurts now, it'll hurt again. Not because you're gullible or naive, only because you fall fast, hard, and you do it every time.

We fall each and every time with the complete and utter confidence that someone will be there to catch us. Now that person we SWORE we were never going to fall for has our hearts, and every time we see them our palms start sweating. The butterflies in our stomach start to soar and our hearts are entirely too close to bursting out of our chests.
