Break A Leg!
Since the first day of school, we have spent countless hours and SO much hard work for the next three days. We are performing the show "Catch Me If You Can". "Catch Me If You Can"is about this young guy, Frank Abagnale William Jr. By the time he was sixteen, he had stolen over 2 billion dollars by creating fake checks! He learns from his dad that he be anything. So, after his parents' divorce, Frank runs away pretending to be a doctor, lawyer, and pilot. In all of this craziness, there is this FBI agent that is relentless to catch him. Each time that he is close to catching Frank, somehow, Frank is one step ahead. I don't want to ruin it, so go see it the ending.
This is my first and last year of musical theatre, as I will be graduating in the spring. I remember all the years of high school, I would be the one in the seat watching them on stage and admiring their talent and hard work. I see these amazing shows that they all put on together, and I always wanted to be a part of it. This year, I'm not in the seats, I'm on the stage, being part of the magic. I remember the day we found out that who made it. I was actually on my mission trip to the Dominican Republic this past spring. My friend had sent me a photo of all the names on the list. There I saw my name.. I was so happy. Jesus is so faithful. He knows your heart and roots for you.
If you are in Musical Theatre, I'm sure you remember your first show. Your first opening night. These are the top things I'll remember in Musical Theatre:
1. Stage mics
I always thought these were just the coolest things in the world. The only thing I didn't enjoy about these were the tape... One on your face, behind your ear and your neck. You don't understand the tape unless you've been in Musical Theatre. Even when they took off the tape, all for the next few days, you would still feel the stickiness of it.
2. Character shoes
This is just an essential to your costume! When you have worn these for a while, don't forget to soak your feet!
3. The choreography
We had an awesome choreographer! A lot of our dancing was fast and fun. I was part of ensemble. I was glad to be a part of ensemble because you got to do a little of everything.
4. The quick changes!
I never knew until that moment that I could move that fast! Our costume crew is the bomb.com at helping us! When you have less than 20 seconds until your next stage entrance, you kinda just throw clothes anywhere. They helped by keeping the clothes organized. At one point, I had less than 10 seconds to change. One costume tech had my coat and hat ready to go and I couldn't had done it without her!
5. The costumes
On the far left of this photo below is my wig for the judge scene. It's the white curly one. For the first time, I learned how to properly put on a wig. I remember for costume parade, everyone freaked out! Also when we started working with sound and lighting everyone was so excited. In that moment, we all realized that the show was coming together. The costumes were so fun and went perfect with the 1960's theme. 30 minutes before the show, we would all stand in a line and get our hair and makeup approved. The biggest struggle for costumes was the hair. LOTS of teasing and hairspray!! P.S. I thought it was pretty cool that we have our own Snapchat and Instagram.
6. All the incredible people I became friends with
We have spent so many hours together. We have all grown close to each other. If I wasn't in Musical Theatre, I would not even know a lot of them how I do now. As our choreographer always said:
Dream work makes the dream work
