Practically everyone likes to listen to music. Whether it be classical music, rock music or R&B, everyone has their own taste when it comes to the music they want to listen too. But take a listen to the music created in the '90s and early 2000s. And then, take a listen to the music created now. Ever wonder why so many people say ‘the 90’s and early 2000s music is better than today?’ Well, take a look at the list below:
- The major reason why is because there wasn’t a lot of skin shown in music videos. Take a look at a Brittney Spears music video from the early 2000s and one she created today. There is a whole lot more of her skin being shown in her video’s now than before. Artist were not trying to sell their music by showing off their amazing bodies. They were trying to sell their music by how great they sounded.
- Artist didn’t talk about drugs or love in every song. P!nk wrote an open letter to former President Bush in her song 'Dear Mr. President,' and Lil’ Mama sung about lip gloss (out of all the things).
- A variety of genres! Unlike today, back in the '90s and early 2000s there was a variety of rock, pop, punk, and hip hop music on radio stations. But today’s line of mainstream music consist of a lot of pop and hip hop music. That begs the question, where did everything else go?
- It was cleaner. There wasn’t a lot of songs about sex or a lot of songs with cruse words in it which made the radio stations great for children to listen to. At least parents did not have to worry about their children hearing a song about drugs every time a song comes on the radio.
- Not too many artists used auto-tone. From what I can recall, T-Pain was one of the most popular artist from the early 2000’s that ever used auto-tone while singing his songs. It worked for him. But today, more artists are using it.
My question is how did this every come about? Time flew to fast to answer that question, but in today’s society there are still a few songs that are well produced, well-written and still be popular without using one curse word or without talking about sex. But who knows, maybe in a few decades the music known today will be better than the ones made in the future. We will just have to let time tell us that.
