On Monday night, the line wrapped around The Troubadour in West Hollywood, as eager young adults waited to get into the sold out show featuring Circa Waves with headliner Oberhofer. Both Circa Waves and Oberhofer killed their sets and left the crowd craving more.
"This crowd is so energized for Los Angeles," an onlooker observed from above as the mosh pit rocked back, forth, and all around. The whole night was filled with life and intensity as the young crowd gathered in the intimate venue. Circa Waves and Oberhofer, both signed under divisions of Universal Music Group, had similar sounds. However, each band had their own distinguishing factors.
Circa Waves, the British, indie-rock band formed in Liverpool, took the Troubadour stage to thunderous applause and support. "You can tell by my smile, I am so f*****g happy," lead singer Kieran Shudall professed to the crowd. After a quick crowd surfing stint, they literally destroyed the stage at the end of their set, knocking everything over while the crowd went wild.
The band is signed to Virgin EMI Records, a British division of Universal Musical Group. Their new album just dropped so be sure to check it out on iTunes or Spotify (https://play.spotify.com/album/6lE7PexxLr5OZtAwqBk...). Overall, Circa Waves made for a great night of entertainment and excitement, however the night was not over. Next up was Oberhofer. Oberhofer, name inspired by the founder and frontman, Brad Oberhofer's, last name, is an emerging band that combines influences of indie rock with feelings of the Surf-Pop Revival. It is impossible to not tap your foot or get up and dance when listening to their songs. Evident by the immense energy in the crowd and the lead singer's enthusiasm, everyone was having a great time, enjoying some solid music.
Talking with frontman Brad Oberhofer is like talking to an old friend. The Tacoma native traveled to New York to attend New York University and ended up starting the band now known as Oberhofer. When not hiking the Pacific Crest Trail, he can be found drinking the fresh waters of mountain springs and writing all his own music.
The adventurer showed off his fearless side during the show when he exited the stage and emerged on the balcony a few moments later, stepped over the railing and literally swung from the rafters while the band backed him up on stage. The crowd went wild while everyone tried to capture the moment on their phones.
The New York based band is signed to Glassnote Music, a division of Universal Music Group, and is currently working on some great new material, so keep an eye out on iTunes or Spotify (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&so...).
Everyone in the crowd would agree that this night was a major success for both the bands. Make sure to check them out because, you read it here, these bands are both rising to the top. Follow them on social media and get their stuff because you are sure to be ahead of the curve on the future of indie rock!
