Transporting To A Parallel Universe

A song is more than the various array of seven notes stringed together by the musician.

Music blares into my headphones as I step out of the car. As the beat drops, my feet seem to walk in the pace of the rhythm of the song and although I can visually see the road I set my foot on, I know my subconscious self has transported to a parallel universe.

Every time I listen to a song, I am absorbed by the aura created by the artist. It’s not simply constructed by the words of the composition. An emotional song evokes tears while a more uplifting tune creates an adrenaline rush. The strumming of the guitar evokes an idealistic coffee-shop vibe while the kick drum bumping takes us to the dance floor.

The song that played in the radio in your first road trip brings forth old, nostalgic memories while the song that played on repeat during the week your heart was broken brings the same lump in your throat.

Even the words concoct a rich story. A story with no actors to play or screen to display their emotions. Still, we empathize the burning pain etched in the protagonist’s heart or the never-ending regret subsided deep beneath one’s conscious self. In those few minutes, the musician manages to capture their two years of life that has been nothing short of a crazy rollercoaster ride.

A song is more than the various array of seven notes stringed together by the musician. Every word reflects hours of brainstorming and writing to serve justice to the emotions experienced by the artist. The three-minute song carries hours of blood, sweat, and tears. It’s a form of self-expression. Music succeeds when words fail due to its ability to communicate without the aid of words.

A simple melody can help connect the dots or find the missing pieces of the puzzle. A playlist can serve as a therapy session and the headphones a mirror where our experiences reflect, creating a new deeper meaning.

Bob's Burgers
Adult Swim

Bob's Burgers is arguably one of the best and most well-written shows on tv today. That, and it's just plain hilarious. From Louise's crazy antics to Tina's deadpan self-confidence, whether they are planning ways to take over school or craft better burgers, the Belchers know how to have fun. They may not be anywhere close to organized or put together, but they do offer up some wise words once and awhile.

We're in college, none of us actually have anything together. In fact, not having anything together is one of our biggest stressors. However, there's a few little things that we do ever so often that actually make us feel like we have our lives together.

1. Making yourself dinner

And no this does not include ramen or Annie's Mac & Cheese. Making a decent meal for yourself is one of the most adult things you can do living on campus. And the food is much better than it would be at the dining hall.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.
