I myself have never been a huge fan of the music of my generation. At times, I do find myself getting sucked into the catchy and repetitive nature of the songs that are being put out onto the radio these days. They get stuck in my head and stay there for what seems like forever. However, even though a song may get stuck in my head, what does it actually say about the quality of the music?

Sometimes, I find it difficult to listen to the radio at all anymore. Radio stations play the same songs over and over and many of the songs sound the same; featuring the upbeat pop-like music of the millennial generation. While this is not inherently bad, I do find myself yearning to hear a song that has lyrics that actually mean something, rather than just some guy spouting off about “shawty” or some girl singing about a breakup. I do realize there are some artists who put out songs that have cleverly worded lyrics that someone actually put thought into but this is a rare find. It disappoints me that the music of my generation is severely lacking a meaningfulness that so many songs of previous music generations had.

Often when I am listening to popular music of this day and age, I take notice of the deficiency of novel lyrics within a song. I can’t help but notice how often the chorus of a song would be repeated and how few parts of the song had their own original lyrics. The song “Geronimo” by the artist Sheppard is a perfect example of this. How many times can you sing “say geronimo” or “bombs away” in a song? Well, the answer is 29 and 15, respectively. I counted. Come on guys, think of some actual lyrics! It baffles me how this song became so popular.

While it does not make sense to compare types of music between generations, as they should naturally change over time, the quality of music can still be considered. Personally, the quality of music of the Millennial generation is sub-par. Artists put out albums that most people only purchase for one or two songs. Greatest hit albums are difficult to come by for many artists, as they don’t release enough songs of a high enough quality. Many artists are only worried about cranking out enough songs to just keep people interested.

The music industry itself is only out for the money, which is unfortunate since music is such an important part of many people’s lives. Many artists are only making their music available to listeners if they pay for the tracks. A lot of popular songs are not available to stream and are only available to buy for prices that are quite high. All this does is promote the illegal obtaining music online to bypass the high costs of purchasing music.

So, while the music of the Millennial Generation is catchy and good to listen to for dancing or singing in the shower, it is severely lacking in quality and originality. Too many songs sound the same and the lyrics are just hollow words put together that mean nothing. I think we need to step it up, guys and demand more from today's artists.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
