Music Of The 21st Century

A Great Decline

*DISCLAIMER* This article is my own personal opinion on music. This article is in now way, shape or form, factual to any data, documentary or other source of information.

Being born at the end of the 90's, I would have thought that I would have had more of a liking for some of my own generations music, like a lot of my own generation, but sadly, I must admit that I do not like my own generations music. Despite the occasional catchy tune, I strongly admit that my own generations music is for the most part horrible. I will break this down by genre.

Country music use to be my favorite type of music. I started listening to country music during a time when it my school if you did decide to listen to country music you went against the norm and were look at weirdly for it. In today's world, country music has taken a major decline in my opinion. All country music sounds similar and none of it sounds like country music. Many people refer to it as "crap" or country-rap. What made country music country was the stories that the songs told. Not necessarily the way the artists sang the songs but the way the lyrics formed a great story that made emotion swell. Also, the chords used and the instruments used. How often do you hear a fiddle(violin) used in modern country?

Pop is a genre that was born in the late 60's and 70's. This genre has had the most turn around, starting out with artists like Elton John and Michael Jackson, and ending with artists like Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber. A pretty big decline right? My problem with today's pop music is that it all sounds the same. All the same beats and all the same sound. No one has that originality anymore that stood out in the beginning of pop music. No two songs were alike and no two artists were alike

Rap music has never been my favorite. Actually, its my least favorite, next to metal and anything with screaming where the drums and guitar overpower the vocalist. Rap music today, let's face it, is all about few things. Drugs, sex or women. Rap originally came out in the 80's and was good. It was fun to listen to and was worth memorizing. Songs like Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang and Poison by Bell Biv Devoe were rap songs ahead of their time. Somehow that rap turned into what we hear today that is very vulgar and littered with profanity. This rap music also all sounds similar. All the rappers sing their songs with the same sound.

This generation does produce some good music but a lot of it lacks. It is almost as if the music industry has become more about making everyone sound alike so they sell instead of producing music that is actually enjoyable. But then again this is all my personal opinion. If you see me with earphones in, you can assume I'm listening to music of the decades that produced the best music, the 70's and 80's.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

eye roll

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"

While this question trend can get annoying, there are a couple of pros to having RBF.

Yify

Another day, another Elle Woods comment. Can’t us blondes get through the day without someone harping at us over the typical stereotypes about who we are? I never understood why a person was judged based upon the hair color they were born with, or the hair color they choose to have (unless you dye your hair blue like Kylie Jenner, I’m still trying to understand why that’s a trend). Nevertheless, as it should be assumed, not everyone is the same. Not all blondes like bright colors and Lilly Pulitzer, and not all blondes claim to identify with Marilyn Monroe. I think the best suggestion to give to people before they make such radical claims is to stop judging a book by its cover. Or in this case, stop judging a blonde by her hair color.
