This past weekend Atlanta hosted their annual music festival in Piedmont Park, Music Midtown. I attended this festival for the first time and was thoroughly impressed with the lineup and location.
I knew I had to attend Music Midtown when I saw the lineup a few months back. The headliners were The Killers and Twenty-One Pilots along with DNCE, The Luimneers, Kesha, G-Eazy and many more amazing artists.
Saturday started the weekend. I saw City & Colour, CHVRCHES, DNCE, G-Eazy, Lil Wayne with 2 Chainz, and Twenty-One Pilots. All these artists impressed me and the festival was set up perfectly so that is was easy to move from stage to stage.
DNCE, with lead singer Joe Jonas, was so much fun to watch and did several covers of popular sings that were really enjoyable. They put on a great show, but no band, in my opinion, can top a Twenty-One Pilots show. This was my fourth time seeing the duo of Tyler Joseph and Joshua Dunn and I still had tears from their performance. They never fail to put together a true experience for their audience. I highly suggest seeing them if you ever have the opportunity to.
Sunday was the true festival experience with lots of rain, a weather delay and mud past your ankles. But, it was so worth staying. Melanie Martinez was the first artist’s show I attended and she was as cool and quirky as I had hoped. After a hour and a half delay I saw who I had been possibly most excited for all weekend, Kesha.
Kesha has not been touring much these past few years and her legal battles do not make it very easy, but she got up on that stage and blew me away. Not only was her attitude and stage presence mesmerizing, but her vocals were some of the best I have hard. Her cover of Dolly Parton’s “Jolie” was truly beautiful and her rock ‘n roll renditions of her pop hits are the definition of cool. I am so happy I finally got to see this queen live.
To end the weekend, The Killers performed. Front man, (NAME), has vocals that sound exactly like their albums and they performed all of their beloved hits. They even did a cover of Elvis that was really well done. I am also so ecstatic that I saw such an iconic band live.
Overall, Music Midtown was a festival experience I will never forget and I urge everyone to attend in the future.
