Music helps me get through a lot of hard times in school. Especially when it’s the middle of the semester and homework is piling, music can be really soothing. I’ve listened to a lot of new music lately. Many of my favorite bands have been releasing new music this year. This is a list of bands I’ve been enjoying.
New Politics
New Politics is a Danish alternative punk band. I am lucky enough to have seen them once in concert and they are playing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in mid-March. I have enjoyed following their music for the last four or five years since every album they put out only improves.
New Politics have amazing stage energy. Their songs are high-energy dance tunes that feature exciting vocals. My favorite songs by them include "Goodbye Coppenhagen," "Pretend We’re in a Movie," "Lovers in a Song," "Girl Crush," and "Aristocrat."
Colony House
Another one of these bands includes a band named Colony House. They have a similar tone to the popular indie band Young the Giant. I think the main difference is that they are a bit more rock. I like both of their albums equally but I do have favorite songs from each of them. From their album, "When I Was Younger" the songs "Silhouettes," "Caught Me By Surprise," "Keep On Keeping On," and "Waiting for My Time to Come" are the strongest songs. From their second album Only the Lonely, the strongest songs are "1234," "You & I," "You Know It," and "Was It Me" are the most memorable.
Mø
I’ve discovered an older artist, but she’s thankfully still releasing music. Mø is a pop artist whose album I just recently discovered through YouTube. Her music intrigued me at first because she wrote pop that didn’t focus so much on being made for clubs. Her music is really chill and it’s good music to study too. Her voice is an interesting sound that’s hard to describe directly but it has elements of Lana Del Rey that I think might appeal to those who are already fans of that artist. Some of Mø’s songs also have “night versions” which is a version of a few of the earlier songs on her album, "No Mythologies to Follow ."Basically, they’re the same song but with different tempos or chord progressions. It’s hard to describe but if you listen to them one right after the other then it’ll be easier to hear.
These are the songs I’ve been listening to the most recently. I hope that this gives you some idea of new music to listen to in the next couple of weeks.
