If you stop and think about it, it's crazy how much music means to all of us as a society and as a human race. Music brings people together and can make you feel an entire array of emotions that you never thought possible. Music is universal. Music is love.
Growing up, there was never a time where there wasn't some music playing in my house. My parents raised me on musicals, Disney tunes, and Prince. When I was in middle school, my dad introduced me to so many new artists, some of which are my absolute favorite to date. The melodies of Marc Broussard, Gabe Dixon, and Dave Barnes rang through my house. They accompanied us on every car ride and road trip. Eventually, that list was added to by Ben Rector, Nathan Angelo, and David Ryan Harris. When I think of these amazing artists that I've grown up with, I think about the times where my dad and I truly connected.
This past Friday night, I was fortunate enough to go on a Daddy Daughter Date with my father to see Gabe Dixon and David Ryan Harris play live. It seems like time has flown by since I've been in college, so I cherish every minute I get to spend with my family. We drove down to Atlanta and stopped at a local burger place to eat. I'm not going to lie, I was a little nervous at first, which sounds crazy. Why on earth should I be nervous to go out with my dad? But eventually, we settled in and ended up at our concert venue. As soon as the first chord on the piano was played, all the nervousness melted away. We laughed and we loved and we enjoyed the music that has brought us together for the last ten years.
I will always remember this night and the way my Daddy took care of me. The way it felt to sing to the same songs and laugh at the same jokes. The overwhelming amount of love I felt for him as he sat across the table from me. The way every note and rhythm sounded better and better than the last. Music is love.
I love you, Daddy.
