Why Music Is Important

Many do not realize how important music really is to most people.

We have all listened to music. Many of us say that music is our lives. Others are just the "listen to whatever is on the radio" type of listeners. Some of us obsess over a band or artist like it was our job. Others refuse to listen to anything thats not a specific genre. Whatever your relationship with music, there is one thing we can all agree on:

Music is important.

It isn't as vitally important as say, air or water, but to many, it's up there. Music is one of the greatest accomplishments mankind has ever made. It holds the power to bring people together, or tear them apart. It can heal broken hearts, or can bring up the pains of the past. Something this powerful is something that can't be ignored. It must be cherished and enjoyed. We can not let it disappear.

I've had my own memories with music. Some fantastic, such as my first concert I went to. Journey, Pat Benatar, and Lover Boy. I'll never forget the sounds of raw, unrecorded hits. But as we all know, life isn't all sunshine and rainbows. I've had my down moments with music. Break-ups, depression, times I've been scared, and times I've been angry at the world. I have a mental playlist for each and every one of those memories. I know which songs I listened to during all those times. And even when I listen to them to this day, some part of me can still feel remnants of those memories.

This wasn't some sad gimmick to get reads. This is a serious message. This is why it is up to us to keep music going. To keep it strong and to keep it alive. Without music, the world is a silent and gloomy place.

This is why music is important.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
