This article was inspired by a recent song release from a popular country duo. The song, “Music is Healing” by Florida Georgia Line was released following a tragic event in July 2016. The chorus of the song asks the audience if they would listen to a song if it could turn wrong into right, and rid the world of all of the hurt that exists within it.
For me personally, music has the power to heal. Some days I’m in the mood for an upbeat tune, and others I prefer slow listening. I wanted to share one of my favorite playlists, fitting for a rainy day:
- “Holocene” by Bon Iver
- “Slow Dancing in a Burning Room” by John Mayer
- “September Grass” by James Taylor
- “The Promise” by Tracy Chapman
- “Let it Be” from the “Across the Universe” soundtrack
- “Congratulations” by Blue October
- “The Wolves” by Bon Iver
- “Come Home” by One Republic
- “The Scientist” by Coldplay
- “Holiday” by Boys Like Girls
- “Poison and Wine” by The Civil Wars
- “Where Are You Going” by Dave Matthews
- “Settle for a Slowdown” by Dierks Bentley
- “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls
- “Your Plan” by Dustin Lynch
- “I See Fire” by Ed Sheeran
- “Where She Told Me To Go” by Eric Church
- “Your Hand in Mine” by Explosions in the Sky
- “Landslide” by Fleetwood Mac
- “Mandolin Rain” by Josh Kelley
- “Sing ‘Em Good My Friend” by Kenny Chesney
- “Volcano” by Phillip Phillips
- “I’ve Told You Now” by Sam Smith
- “Fix You" by Coldplay
- “Georgia” by Vance Joy
Some of these songs have a happy message and others are more suitable for a rainy day kind of mood. Listening to them won’t end poverty or stop all the suffering in the world, but for me, they have a way of “healing.” I believe in music therapy; this playlist is meant for those difficult days when you’re just going through the motions…press play and let the rest go.
