As music festivals approach and pass, I'd like to give my advice on the necessities to survive them. The term "survive" should be used lightly, because music festivals are all about enjoying the moment and making unforgettable memories. However, there are some things I would deem a necessity since these festivals can be hot and tiring.
1. Small bag/fanny pack
You're going to need something to hold all of your necessities. Bring along a small string bag or a fanny pack to hold your stuff. Some festivals are specific about the size of backpack you can bring in, but all allow string backpacks and fanny packs! For women, I seriously recommend a fanny pack since everything you hold is right in front of you and no one can steal anything from behind your back.
2. Portable phone charger
If you're going to be spending the entire day at a music festival, I bet you'll be taking pictures and videos, as well as using your Snapchat. These actions drain your phone battery like no other, so it's always good to bring a portable charger. Also, bring your wall plug-in too, because many festivals now have phone charging stations!
3. Hair tie/bandana
No matter how cute your hair might look when you leave your house, once you're outside in the sun and dancing, you're going to want it up and out of your face! Bring a few hair ties and even a bandana to wear as a headband. Additionally, if you're at a festival that is windy, dusty, or where there is a lot of smoke, the bandana can be folded in half and worn around your mouth to keep you from coughing.
4. LARGE water bottle
Most music festivals have water stations and allow you to bring a water bottle to refill. Before attending the festival, look up their policy online and see if the water bottle has to be empty or if it has to be sealed shut - different venues have different policies. Either way, try to buy the biggest one you see at the supermarket. It will come in handy because the water lines can be long.
5. Travel-sized sunscreen
You'll also have to check the festival's policy for this one, but some allow you to bring in sunscreen as long as it's sealed shut. I'd recommend buying a travel-sized bottle because it's cheaper to buy and it's easier to fit in your small bag.
6. Band-aids
Throwing one or two band-aids in your bag is always a good idea... who knows, maybe your shoes will give you blisters or maybe you'll be able to help out a stranger! It's better to be safe than sorry.
That concludes my necessities for a music festival. Now all that's left is to enjoy the music, have fun with your friends and have the time of your life. Enjoy!
