"I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music." -Billy Joel

Well Billy, I 100 percent agree with you; music is the key to the soul and influences us more than we even notice. Without music I have no idea where I would be. Like Billy said no matter what where we are from music can affect us in many ways. Music is one of the many blessings from God. In fact, music is one of the many ways God connects with me or better yet how I connect with God.

My favorite thing to do is worship, worships connect with my soul. I love how I can open my arms, reach up and sing (good or bad) and knowing that the Lord is happy. I want to reach up and imagine what God is trying to tell me through a song. I think this has to do with how I was raised. My father was in a band so throughout my life it seemed like music was everywhere. If I wasn't at a show, my dad was practicing or our family was rocking out while driving to dinner. I was listening to music more than I was not. The point I'm trying to make here is that from the beginning music has been a huge part of my life. It's something about hearing the different instruments come together to create a piece that is totally different from the millions of pieces before. I love how each instrument plays a really important role in a song and the different combinations of instruments.

Another reason how music has impacted me is how it helps me work. Music can make or break whether or not I can focus. It gets my mind racing and pumps me up for whatever I'm about to do. its like is gets my creative juices flowing.

Scientifically tests have shown that music stimulates the brain more than any other function. So even if you think everything I have said has been a bunch of bologna, then look it up. It's been proven. You are affected by music. That's why our emotions differ based on the music we listen to.

My favorite thing is when I hear a song and it brings back a memory (a good memory of course) and I'm reminded of the smells, and tastes of the situation. It makes me fill with joy and makes my heart warm.

I'm sorry for the rambling about music, but the point of the matter is that there are a hundred types of music and music impacts everyone differently. I just know the feelings that I get when I listen to a song and wanted to share. I love feeling confident, happy, and alive. I think God every day for music.

Speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord. Ephesians 5:19

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
