When I first started dating my boyfriend one of the first questions I asked him was what kind of music does he like? For some reason, to me, having a similar taste in music as the person I dated seemed so important to me. So when I found out that he disliked country music I became skeptical. It wasn't until he took me to my first "gothic rock" concert that I found out that our music tastes didn't have to be the same or even similar.
Like I said before my playlists usually consist of country and maybe some pop music. My boyfriend's normal playlist consists of punk rock, heavy metal, and gothic rock. Not my usual cup of tea but hey I listened and put up with it 'cause I liked the guy. Fast forward a month or two and he invited me to a concert, the headliner being HIM and the opening band being CKY. Needless to say, I had no clue who they were and honestly, I didn't really know what to expect. The night of the concert came around and I was probably the only one in the crowd who didn't know a single word to any song but I still had such a great time.
It was a different type of concert I've never experienced before, it was a tiny venue which made it so much more awesome being a part of the experience and I was just happy bopping along to the awesome music being played right in front of me. In the months that followed I heard certain songs that stood out to me while we drive around listening to his station on the radio. I really liked these songs so much that some of them ended up on my workout playlist!
The point I'm trying to get across is that if I never met my boyfriend I would've never been introduced to these awesome bands. Yes, I was kind of skeptical at first but once I opened up to his kind of music, I really started to enjoy and appreciate it even more. I can now truly say that I have a new outlook and appreciation for all tastes in music. You can now catch me at the gym listening to a little Metallica and Greta Van Fleet, who knows who'll end up on my playlist next?
