The thankful receiver bears a plentiful harvest. - William Blake
The dictionary defines thankful as feeling or expressing gratitude. Its a simple definition with a pretty big meaning behind it. In this day and age this simple act is something that is lost in our day to day activities. We are so wrapped up in next big thing that we forgot to thank the ones around us.
As a millennial, I think we are more guilty of this than any other generation. As a child we were handed whatever we wanted without giving a second thought to step back and actually enjoy it. Now that we are in college and the workplace we want grades given to us, jobs handed to us, and to become millionaries without lifting a finger. As a society we have forgotten what it means to be thankful for something.
As Thanksgiving is right around the corner I want to challenge you. As you set down with family and friends on Thursday to enjoy a home cooked meal and the company of loved ones, be thankful but don't let it end there. Take the thanksgiving attitude and continue it on to the next day, the next month, and the next year.
We all have so much to be thankful for. The fact that we woke up this morning is a blessing within itself. Each day is a new adventure of meeting new people and experiencing different opportunities that not everyone gets to experience. Savor those moments and be thankful that you were given those opportunities and blessing in your life.
I came across this bible verse that fits thanksgiving perfectly. "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. Colossians 3:17
In all your endeavors be thankful and show a thankful heart. As we continue to climb ladders and chase our dreams don't forget where you are from and how far you have come. Be thankful for your journey and hardships as your path creates your character.
Every Sunday at my local church we start our service by saying, "God is good all the time, and all the time God is good." While this may seem like a small detail in the bigger picture it is one of my favorite parts of the sermon. It is a weekly reminder that God is working in my life and to be thankful to him for everything in my life.
This thanksgiving remember that there is so much to be thankful for. Your health, family, friends, just to name a few. Take that thankful attitude and continue to thrive off of it for the year to come.
