Methodist University may be a small school, but it is still an amazing one. The school is made great by the effort the faculty and staff put in toward their students, it's beautiful campus and the students themselves. However, like at any other school, there are still many ways in which the university can improve itself.
There are two major commuter lots on campus. These two are located in front of Reeves and in front of Trustees. From an outside perspective it would seem that the parking available to commuter students is ideal, with there being two rather large lots, with them both being on opposing sides of campus. However this is not the case. These parking spaces are not used by commuters alone, they are also taken by faculty and staff, and yes, even the rebellious resident who didn’t feel like walking in the rain. This being the case, it can be difficult at times to find a decent parking spot, and sometimes difficult to find a parking spot at all.
The biggest cause of this “cramped” situation is convenience. If it is more convenient for someone, and they do not think that there will be reprimands, then what would their reasoning be to stop?
Many people say that the first step to fixing a problem is to identify it, the second part is finding a solution. One interesting solution could be to have parking for resident's in front of their respective dorms. All other parking could be moved to the outskirts of campus and the campus itself could be converted into a walking campus. Perhaps there could even be a shuttle that drives students from the dorms up to the quad. Before any actions can be taken students must speak up about what they see to be an issue.
