5. The tradition and history
The history of our college dates all the way back to 1855, the year we were established. We were the first institution of higher learning in the United States to teach scientific agriculture, as well as the first to pioneer the studies of packaging, horticulture and music therapy. With over 160 years of history, that leaves a lot of room for tradition. The biggest tradition? The birth of the "Spartans" nickname adopted in 1926 and the statue dedicated in June of 1945.6. Every year, close to 3,000 MSU students study abroad in over 275 programs that take place in more than 60 countries around the world.
