To Mr. 45th: You Don't Define Me

We got the alerts, saw it all over our news feeds on social media, and through family and friends that were watching the 45th president being inaugurated. Many didn’t think this day would come, but it eventually did as Trump has taken the oath and given his speech. Many are asking how much can he get done with his four years. Well, that is not even the question anymore because he has caused some real damage in the last week he has taken office.

He has continued to create a divide among the country. In the last week that he has been in office, he has shown the world that the United States may not be great at all. He is creating an image that says we hate all types of people who do not fit into his great America. He has created lies about himself to boost up his self-esteem which normally bully’s do this when they feel that compensate for what they fear.

So, Mr. 45th what are you compensating for? The real facts are that nobody showed up to your inauguration because you are not liked. There weren’t any illegal votes that were cast during the election, just truth that was being cast. But I guess it was not enough to keep you out the oval office. Oh, and I’m sorry to tell that Mexico is not paying for that precious wall of yours. If you want to keep the country safe, then why don’t you use your money to fund the wall. I guess you can’t because you’ll never show your tax returns.

However, I want to give you the benefit of the doubt that you could probably do some good and bring on changes that no other president could have. In all honesty, I tried. Now I can’t because I feel as if I should stand up for who I am and what I believe in. You don’t represent me and what I believe in, you don’t know what is like to be a Latina in this country, or the sacrifices my family made to get where I am today. You don’t know because all you think you see are cartels, criminals, and rapist which isn’t the reality Mr.45th. You are the person I’m supposed to look up to and gain some type of confidence that our country will be OK from. But no, not when you start to introduce lies and misinform the people.

Instead of trying to bring this nation together you are tearing us apart. Yet, I am not going to let that happen. You see Mr.45th, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. That light of mine burns with determination, and I will not be a bystander to the mess that you have caused. I will be the advocate for those who feel they don’t have much of voice or feel like they don’t matter. To me, they natter. I matter. We all matter because we were once a nation of immigrants, a place where one could start off with a clean slate, and a place where everyone can be safe.

So, President Trump, you can build a wall, deport my family, ban my friends, and take my body away from me but one thing you can never take away from is my pride and belief. You do not represent who I am. I, myself, represent who I am to the world, and I will show them the real and uncensored views and opinions. You sir, are no president of mine.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

250
Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
