In the 90's it was common to see people walking around with a set of headphones and a C Disk Player larger than their hands. I mean, it was a big step up from the boom boxes and cassette players used the decade before. As music began emerging into the world of popularity through break dancing, roller skating, and more, there became a need for something new. Technology brought to us the mp3, a new format for coding audio in order to transfer it to new and smaller devices such as the Ipod, which changed the music world for the last two decades. Music lovers could now transfer and listen to their favorite tracks by using only 10 percent of the storage space without losing too much reduction.

Now, developers who patented the mp3, The Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits, are officially discontinuing the licensing. In short, there are much better ways to buy, transfer, and store audio files in 2017. Consumers in the computer tech world watched this happen when Floppy Disk was converted to CD-ROM, but with technology growing at an immense rate the MP3 is much more mainstream; making this a big change for users around the globe.

While this will big an immense change for many of companies who will now use the Advanced Audio Coding system, there will still be a few select business models that will continue to condone the mp3. According to the interview between the Director of Fraunhofer and NPR, "de facto standard for music download and videos on mobile phones." The AAC is simply more efficient and has larger possibilities, as it takes a considerably larger amount of quality- streaming for audio and video on a mobile device with a lower bitrate.

While it was a tough break through to encourage users that the mp3 was going to become the norm for audio file users, but as the internet exposed what the mp3 file could do, it became a gold mine for many file sharing companies such as Napster and Limewire. In return, this created a new platform for artists to hold royalties on programs like iTunes, which stemmed the invention of mp3 players. Today the mp3 will be put into a special place in the hearts of many music lovers from the initial cyber era, as it allowed broadcasting of larger files possible. While it stemmed the creation for some of the most widely technological devices in modern society such as the iPhone, it is unlikely that the mp3 will ever make as trendy comeback due to lack of quality and compression. Some researchers suggest that the compression on the mp3 adds a certain growl that will alter the emotions that are set on each instrument, allowing for some sounds to become more despondent from what the artist originally composed. 2017 is bringing on new possibilities for the decibel of sound to the human ear, lets see what the future has to offer as the EDM world emerges around us.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
