Being Home for the Summer as Told by Donald Trump

Summer break is something we all look forward to. However, you may not get the same feeling you once did in high school about being at home for the summer after spending some time living away from mommy and daddy. Home will always be home, but there's just a weird feeling you get after living away for an extended period of time. Not only am I a college student that's home for the summer, but I am also a first time voter. So this does not mean I am an expert at politics and definitely don't claim to be. But, something we can all agree on is that this election will go down in history because of the outspoken and polar opposite opponents. So why not make light of this situation? This is how I've felt moving back home for the summer as told by one of the two presidential nominees, Donald Trump.

1. Running into acquaintances.

You know that feeling when you see someone that went to your school or from your town that never bothered to talk to you in high school try to pretend like they actually care about how you've been or how your year went?

"So how have you been?" "How was your first year of college?" "So good to see you!" and you just smile and keep thinking in your head "I'm gonna be very nice."

2. Talking to adults.

Of course being home for the summer means you're going to be around your parents, aunts/uncles, family members, and just communicate with adults in general. So you finally get to answer all of those dreaded questions that you've only answered a million times.

"So what are you majoring in?" "What are you going to school for?" "How were your grades?" "Was your first year as hard as you thought it would be?"

3. Less Freedom

So you've been in college where you got to make all the decisions: what time you ate, what time you go out, what time you come back. You probably got used to (and enjoyed) being in control of the majority of your decisions. There's no more taking naps in the middle of the day without getting questioned or staying out until the next morning with your friends. You better text your mom back when she sends that "Where are you?" or "What time will you be home?" text..

4. Chores.

When you move back home of course you're expected to keep your room clean, do some laundry, and maybe clean a dish or two.. (or throw them in the dishwasher) But when you choose to be lazy and just sit around all day, you'll probably hear...

"Who do you expect to do everything around here?"

5. Work.

Like I said before, of course coming back home for the summer doesn't mean you can just lay around and watch Netflix all day.. you're probably going to be expected to make some sort of money. If you're anything like me, you have to come back to the dreaded part time job you had before you left for college.

6. Reuniting with your friends from home.

Now not everything about coming home is bad. You're now finally all in the same town as your friends from high school. No more "well I'm not coming home this weekend" or "Sorry, I have to go back to school tomorrow morning." It's so nice to catch up with them after all being in different cities. You finally have your "group" back and can have all the same fun you once did in high school.

So while being at home for the summer with your parents may not seem ideal...it does have its downfalls, but also has its perks. I can say that I'm so happy I'm not eating dining hall food everyday or stuck in a bedroom that could be the size of a walk in closet. Happy Summer!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

The Unwritten Rules Of "Talking"

What is "talking?" How does one "talk?"

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
