Stepping Through Hate

The election has happened and whether it's good or bad, America's next president is Donald Trump. There has already been quite a bit of backlash across the nation. It's like the nation has gone crazy ever since this election campaign has started and just skyrocketed in the level of ridiculousness with the actual election being over.

There have been protests that have popped up all across the country. Especially in the more metropolitan areas. The protests have labeled themselves as anti-hate protests but all that seems to be present is hate. Hate for Trump. Hate for the electorate process. Hate for those who are not part of some minority. Celebrities have appeared at these protests to show their disgust in the results, some have even made the claim that they were going to leave the country.

Protests are not all that is happening. There are some that say that he is not their president and some of them have started to burn flags. Just like when Obama was elected president, there are those that are stating that the president is not their president. Not so much because they did not vote for them, but more for that the president-elect does not represent their ideals. Back in that election it was a proportion of Republicans claiming this. Now it is a group of not just Democrats, but mostly, that are claiming this same thing of Trump. This is the hypocrisy of politics. This act was condemned as being unamerican, but now those same individuals that condemned the Republicans are doing the exact same thing.

Those who are more radical "Trump Supporters" have been doing obscene things now that they think everything that they want to say or do to minorities is not going to be condemned by the leader of the nation. There have been people that have threatened minorities. I have overheard a fellow student say to a women of Hispanic origin that works at the college that she needs to be careful not to wind up in a dumpster. Around the country women have actually had their junk grabbed. Men have walked up to women and grabbed their "pussies", just like Trump said to do in one of the debates.

I don't care who voted for who, this is unacceptable behavior (okay burning the flag is technically covered under freedom of speech, but the other things are just ridiculous). We need to respect one another. No matter who got voted in as president, they don't control our actions, we do. I'm just gonna keep this really short because y'all are probably just as tired of politics as I am right now. We ALL need to be the better people and let those in power know that whatever they do, they do not control us, that we will act as civilized humans, and give each other respect, no matter what their race, or sex, or religion, or whatever arbitrary way of classifying people is currently in use. Love. One. Another.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
