Like many students on college campuses I do not live in the state, so I have the huge struggle of figuring out how to take all my stuff home. Not only did I not travel light when I was coming to school, but I bought so much stuff while I was here. I've recently been figuring out how I am going to take all my things home and here is what I've come up with.

1. Start early

The earlier you start thinking about how you are going to get everything out of your dorm the easier it will be for you later down the road.

2. If you can take things that you don't need back early

I know this probably doesn't help at the end of the year. But, if you happen upon this article before the end of the year I really recommend taking a few things each time you visit home.

3. Donate clothing that you won't wear anymore to places like Goodwill

It is good to donate your cloth plus coming to college I realized there are actually tons of cloth I have that I never wear.

4. Have friends who are staying hold the bigger items

My friend is going to be keeping my bike in her garage over the summer. There are just some big items that can't go home with you and aren't worth getting a whole storage unit. Asking a friend to keep them for you can be the simplest option.

5. School storage can be extra pricey so look for alternatives

At my school, there are many options for storage units but those provided by the school are often very expensive, so my friends and I did our own research and found ones that were much cheaper.

6. Share a storage locker with an out of state friend

Most storage lockers have a flat rate that you must spend to store stuff with them, but I found that the space I was getting was bigger than what I needed for just my stuff. Splitting the fee with a friend is a nice way to save money.

7. If you can take everything home do it

It might not seem fun to lug all your belongings back home with you, but if you can I'd say to do it. It saves you money because you don't have to pay for storage, and also it is nice to move back into your home and know that if you do need something all your things are with you.

8. Pack your clothing first

I pack my cloth first because I have to take my cloth, so I need to know how much space they take up and if they cant fit in other containers. The only way for me to get a clear picture is if I fold them all first.

9. Disinfecting wipes can get out most stains (oxi clean are the best)

At my school, they inspect the rooms for stains and just any damage to the property. I don't know how serious this will be, but to get out any slight discoloration on my walls I used disinfecting wipes.

10. A checked bag can be a box (doesn't have to be a suitcase)

If you get just a cardboard box at home depot, It can be used as a checked bag and it holds more stuff

11. Recruit family to come help you

That's what family is for!!!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
