The Art Of Moving Out

If you're a freshman you probably think that moving out will be a walk in the park. I mean, you live in a tiny, tiny dorm room there's no way you could have that much stuff right? Wrong. One of the biggest mistakes is to underestimate moving out. It takes so much time. From getting boxes to pack up in to making an appointment to get your room checked before you officially leave, there are many little things you may over look. Add moving out to you're already finals filled mind and a break down is likely to occur in the near future.

I know that these things might seem trivial but here are some tips and materials that might help you during this dreadful process.

1. Don't forget the small things.
Remember to go out and purchase boxes and tape so you can physically start packing.

2. Start Early
I know you think that you use everything every day, and therefore can't start packing, but that's not true. Start early with your winter clothes and wall decorations.

3. Have a laundry day.
If you're going to be storing your clothes for the entire summer you need to wash them first. It's awful to be fighting over washers in the dorms on the day you're moving out, so have a laundry day before then to beat the other procrastinators.

4. Clean.
It's pretty impossible to start packing if your room is a mess. You need to have an idea of what you have and where things are in order to start organizing and packing.

5. Get some help
If you're lucky maybe your parents are able to come help you move out. If not, team up with a few of your dorm mates and work together, because even though you might not have to move furniture, those boxes of clothes weigh a lot.

6. Donate
One of my biggest regrets after my freshman year was feeling like I had to save everything. I convinced myself that I might need absolutely everything in my room. I didn't. Most dorms will have donation boxes for you to donate things you don't use or wear. I suggest doing this because less stuff makes moving in a whole lot easier, plus your “trash" can help someone else.

After working retail seasonally, here are a few tips that I learned in order to make the employees at your favorite store just a little happier and not want to charge you extra on your purchase for being awful. Here are some times when you should be nicer to retail workers than you actually are!

5 Untold Struggles Of The Short Friend

I'm the Short Friend. I've been the Short Friend since about the seventh grade. I'm the one who stands in the front of the photos, gets made fun of for their height, and still shops in the kids department.

This article is not for the Almost Short Friends, i.e. the 5'3" and 5'4" Friends. No no, this is for the Actually Short Friends, i.e. the Barely Scraping 5'1" and shorter Short Friends.

11 Things All Call Center Workers Can Empathize With Better Than Anyone
Youtube

This semester I started my journey as a member of my University's Alumni Outreach Team. This means a lot of things, but primarily it means that I get to make phone calls to parents and alumni two nights a week to update contact information, collect things like business cards and volunteer hours, and even ask for money.
