As my first year of college creeps closer, I can't help but appreciate the friends I made in high school. I may be moving a couple hundred miles away from them, but distance doesn't have anything on the memories we have made. So, for those who really got to know me through some of the most awkward years of my life, this one's for you.
Dear Friend,
Thank you for sticking with me throughout the years. I always knew that I had a friend who would keep my secrets. I could always tell you who I was crushing on that day. Thanks for letting me be my weird self and accepting me without judgement. I will always cherish the times that we would just hangout in your basement and sing karaoke.
Thank you for your amazing advice. I can count on you to help me make the right decision when it comes to anything. Whether it be boys or what I am going to wear for a party, I trust that you're being honest with me. I appreciate knowing that I have someone who will tell me in all honesty if my hair looks bad or if there is lipstick on my teeth.
Thank you for making me feel that I'm important. That without me, our friend group would be missing out on a whole lot. Thank you for laughing at my jokes and telling me that I am funny. If I ever need a confidence boost, you're right by my side making me feel better. I wouldn't have the confidence I do without you telling me time and time again that you are glad we are friends.
Thank you for teaching me how to do my hair. If it weren't for you I would still be walking around with a ponytail in every day. You are a life saver when it comes to getting ready for school dances. You taught me that being helpful and friendly to everyone will always pay off in the long run, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.
Thanks for making me do my math homework. Even though I hated it, it was a bit less awful with a friend by my side. I would probably have a C if it weren't for you pushing me to come study before every test. I have learned that even the worst things can be better with a friend by your side.
Thank you for still being my friend after high school. Our late nights of continuous laughter won't be forgotten, especially since we know there will be more in the future. Even though high school is over, our friendship is too strong to let that come between us. It's true that we may grow apart as life takes us in different directions, but just know that you always have a friend in me. Whether it's texting about exciting news or getting coffee in 30 years, the memories we made in high school will always be with us. Without you, I wouldn't be who I am today.
