It's the beginning of 2017, which means that 2007 was ten years ago. In that 10 years, a lot of things have changed; not only in our every day lives, but cinematically as well. The basic story line of any film has changed. CGI, graphics, and image quality has improved dramatically as we make technological advancements every single day. As we start the year of 2017, a year dubbed by some as "the year of cinematic brilliance", I thought it would be interesting to go back and reflect on the movies released in 2007.
Ratatouille
This is one of Disney's most intriguing story lines, yet it is often forgotten amongst all the other films they've created. This movie brought diversity to the Disney form, including innuendos and laughter that even adults could enjoy. One of the best jokes was a simple one: "Ratatouille, it sounds like rat . . . and patootie."
Transformers
The very first film in the series, starring Shia LeBeouf and Megan Fox, dominated the box office earning $709.7 mllion dollars.
Enchanted
This is the movie with Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey, where she get shoved down a well and ends up emerging from a sewer in the middle of New York City. Many appreciated the new take Disney made on this fairy tale, as this one commented on the strangeness of what happens in films such as this one. It provided audiences with laughter and catchy tunes to sing along with for years, even earning a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Not only was this book highly popular, but this movie was one of the most enthralling. Being the 5th installment in an 8 part movie series, it had a lot to live up to. Dolores Umbridge (portrayed by Imelda Staunton) is appointed as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Soon it becomes apparent that this woman is cruel and hateful, and is (in some cases) considered worse than Voldemort himself. The woman got what she deserved in the end, and this movie will go down as one of the best in, not only that series, but in 2007 as well.
Hairspray
The one starring Zac Efron of course! It seems fitting that it reached its 10 year anniversary debut, due to its live show airing just last December. Although the live version was good, nothing could compare to what the film adaptation could bring. This film, being the remake of an original, drew in a whole new fan base to Hairspray. With its catchy tunes and upbeat sound, its no surprise!
Bridge to Terabithia
I chose this movie to end this article, because this movie, although released in February 2007, made it nearly impossible to top. The audience is on an emotional roller coaster from beginning to end, and it's so easy to like these characters and be drawn into the story. AnaSophia Rob and Josh Hutcherson are young in the film, but their acting is phenomenal, allowing them to bring the story to life. Josh's character creates this fantasy life to escape reality, and together the two attempt to conquer that world together. It's worth a watch, trust me!
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go have a movie marathon.
