June is officially PRIDE month and a very important month for those in the LGBTQ community. More and more movies recently are changing with the times and putting more LGBTQ characters in the center light. Similar things are also happening in TV shows and books, with main and supporting characters. Some are truly masterpieces, perfectly encompasses the characters and making them relatable to many in and outside the community. Here are five that I and many others found particularly wonderful in entertainment.
1. "Call Me By Your Name"
Beautiful people, check. Beautiful scenery, check. Beautiful story, check. What more could you want? Anyone can enjoy and relate to this story, as it shows the beautiful, yet trying time of first loves. Personally, I cried like a baby.
2. "Love, Simon"
This movie was too cute and brought up a lot of important things. First off, it shows how heterosexuality is apparently the default, making it seem extra dramatic for those of the LGBTQ community. It shows the struggle many in the community go through in trying to figure out when to come out and why it's a necessity.
3. "Carol"
Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara show the struggle that so many went through and still go through when loving someone isn't what society wants. Each try to figure out what they want and go through a lot of trying times to then get what they want.
4. "Milk"
This follows a time of the life of Harvey Milk who was a gay rights activist and how he became the first openly gay man to win an official position in San Francisco. The movie shows the impact he had on the community and the world before he was assassinated in 1978.
