Grandparents are wonderful. They give you gifts, celebrate events, and wish you a happy birthday (without a Facebook reminder), as well. While visiting them during the summer, there are many places you can travel together. However, for those that want to save gas and money, there is nothing like sitting down and watching a good movie with them. Here are 10 family comedies that you will enjoy with grandparents and the rest of the family.

"We Bought A Zoo"

Here is a nice family comedy, based on a true story. It is about an author who purchases a zoo and works with the staff while attending to the exotic animals in an effort to reopen it for the public. There are plenty of wild and crazy moments to keep the family entertained. The movie is a comedic drama that focuses on the importance of family, love, commitment, and teamwork. Definitely a must-see.

"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty"

Here is another comedy film (that I was lucky enough to read in high school) about a worker for a magazine company who experiences a series of surrealistic experiences of action and romance to escape from his boring life. Soon, he must face reality and journey across the world in his greatest adventure yet. The film involves finding yourself in the real world. Special effects are cool during the dream sequences, and the acting is also great. Families should check it out.

"War Horse"

This is an exciting action and adventure movie that will be more suited for teens, fathers, and grandfathers. The movie is about the friendship between a WWI solider and the horse he trains for battle. After they get separated, the horse goes on a journey in search of his owner. Even though the images and scenes of war are unsettling, the messages of friendship and overcoming struggles are the driving force of this movie. If you are not easily disturbed by violence, this is a great film.

"Saving Mr. Banks"

Giphy

This film is the story about how Walt Disney got the opportunity to bring "Mary Poppins," the story by author P.L. Travers, to the big screen. Families and grandparents will enjoy the origin story about how a classic Disney movie became possible. There are funny moments, drama, and great special effects. The story about how these famous icons met is told in a nice format, and you can understand the struggles that it took to get "Mary Poppins" finally made into a film. It is an interesting family story, and grandparents will appreciate the historical aspect and cinematic brilliance.

"Forrest Gump"

If you are looking for a classic drama, then this is a great one. Grandparents will see historical events through the perspective of a kind but slow-witted Alabama man. The story is humorous, touching, emotional, and beautifully-made. Families like how Forrest travels around the world and meets historical icons and celebrities. Have to see this one for sure.

"Gravity"

Outer space is amazing, but it is possible that this film might cause you to jump and freak out a little bit. The movie is about two astronauts that get stranded in space and have to survive. It is a thrilling adventure that is not recommended if you are afraid of stressful or perilous situations. The movie is amazing and is an amazing experience. It is a must-see for science majors or anyone with an interest in the universe.

"Dolphin Tale"

Giphy

Dolphins are smart creatures. If you've been to Sea World or traveled, you've been lucky enough to see them. This is a film about a group of people that save a dolphin's life after its tale gets amputated. Scary as that sounds, it is a nice story of compassion, friendship, and protecting those in need. Anyone who loves adventures films or marine life will love this one.

"The Addams Family"

Get ready for a monster of a film. Here is a creepy and eccentric family that will make you laugh and occasionally cringe. Meet the Addams Family and enjoy their mysterious and wacky hijinks. It is a classic comedy that is not actually scary. The acting is good and the effects are okay for the time, but it's something to watch if you want to have a quick laugh.

"Walt Before Mickey"

Giphy

Before Disney turned into the attention-grabbing, entertainment-providing, money-hungry behemoth that it is today, you can hear the story about how Walt Disney went on to create Mickey Mouse in this documentary. The struggles and failures that he went through will inspire you to not give up on your dreams. Strangely, Walt was told he was not creative and had unoriginal ideas. Families will enjoy this film, especially grandparents who watched the classic Disney movies and remember the origins of Walt Disney. This is a nice summer film if you are thinking of planning your next trip to Disney World or Universal Studios.

 "The Lego Movie"

Legos are an absolute pain if you step on them (I know from experience), but the movie about them is quite enjoyable. Here is a summer movie that is built for your entertainment. We all remember playing with Legos. This movie is a funny and nostalgic trip back to those days. Grab a seat and watch this original story about the plastic toys that led to many creative minds and sore feet. Great film for the whole family.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
