30 Must-See Movies In 2017
Rick Wamre via Advocate Magazine

What are you doing this week? I am going to the movies. Why do I choose the movies? It is where all the fun and excitement will be held. I knew that 2017 would be a spectacular year when I viewed the list of upcoming movies. 2017 has us covered. Here is a list of movies to keep your eyes on during the year.

First Quarter:

“Patriot’s Day” – January 13th

This is a movie about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and specific events surrounding a Boston police commissioner. Mark Wahlberg stars in it, so it will most likely be a good movie.

“The Lego Batman Movie” – February 10th

“The Lego Batman” video games are interesting to play. I enjoyed “The Lego Movie,” so I am curious to see how “The Lego Batman Movie” will turn out. Plus, it’s animated, comical, and features DC Comics favorite superheroes.

“Logan” – March 3rd

For years, we have been blessed to see Hugh Jackman as Logan/Wolverine in the X-Men films. Jackman’s time as the Wolverine is coming to an end. Seeing Logan as an old man will be thrilling.

“Kong: Skull Island” – March 10th

Don’t forget about King Kong. He is back to make an impact. The movie is a reboot of the franchise. If you are a big fan of Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, or Tom Hiddleston, then “Kong: Skull Island” is the movie to see.

“Beauty and the Beast” – March 17th

Yes, “Beauty and the Beast” is coming to live action. It will be providing some morals that its viewers should take with them throughout 2017– “inner beauty is greater than the outer/physical beauty.”

“Power Rangers” – March 24th

Finally, there is another Power Rangers movie. It wouldn’t surprise me to find more adults in the movie theater than children. We have been waiting on this for years.

Second Quarter:

“Smurfs: The Lost Village” – April 7th

"Smurfs" is another animated movie that can be enjoyed with the family. The previous Smurfs films were funny, but this is a reboot of the franchise. Hopefully, it is as good (if not better) than the last Smurf films.

“The Fate of the Furious” – April 14th

When Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Ludacris, and Tyrese Gibson link up for a movie, we know it is about to be a good.

“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2” – May 5th

The first movie of Marvel Cinematic Universe of 2017 will be filled with action, hilarious lines and awkward moments. Will this be the movie that allows the Guardians to link up with the Avengers? Don’t forget to watch the mid-credit scene and/or post-credit.

"Baywatch" –May 26th

Here goes another movie with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. Do you remember the TV show? Well, it has become a movie. The Rock will be teaming up with Zac Efron to give a hilarious, action packed, non-stop laughter movie.

“Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” – May 26th

Guess who’s back? It has been a while since we have seen Captain Jack Sparrow. I wonder what he has been up to and what trouble he has gotten himself into now.

“Captain Underpants: the First Epic Movie” – June 2nd

When you're thinking about if you would enjoy this film or not, then I have two words for you– Kevin Hart. He will be starring in the film, so be prepared to laugh a million times. “Captain Underpants” has been the young guys' book to buy at the scholastic book fair for years. It finally has a movie. The nostalgia will reach a climax with this movie release. More importantly, the movie was produced by DreamWorks Animation, who I am a big fan of. Yes, I am one of those who thinks DreamWorks is better than Pixar.

“Wonder Woman” – June 2nd

Hopefully, you have seen “Man of Steel,” “Batman vs Superman,” and “Suicide Squad.” Wonder Woman is next, and it is her time to shine. I don’t think it will be as funny as “Suicide Squad” but it will be better than “Batman vs Superman.” The movie sets the fans up for the upcoming Justice League movie.

"All Eyez On Me" – June 16th

“When I was young me and my mama had beef
Seventeen years old kicked out on the streets”
– Tupac from “Dear Mama”

The 90’s were blessed with the lyrical genius, Tupac, and his deep songs. Fans have been anxious to see the movie since news broke up about it being filmed. It couldn’t have been released on a date other than his birthday. All eyes will be on him.

“Cars 3” – June 16th

“Cars 3” is for those who thought Lighting McQueen was done racing. He still has some gas in his tank. McQueen has a couple more big races left in him.

“Transformers: The Last Knight” – June 23rd

Will this be the end? I don’t think so because the Transformers movies have a habit of letting the viewers know that the Autobots’ job is not done. There will be more trouble coming their way. I wish Shia LaBeouf would come back to the films.

“Despicable Me 3” – June 30th

To end the first half of 2017 on a good note, you have to watch the next Despicable Me movie. Yes, there is a part three. Gru and his minions have another foe to take down. It will enjoyable to see in every second of the movie.

Third Quarter:

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” – July 7th

The second half of 2017 will be kicked off with a bang. Spider-Man is back, again. This time, MCU has input in the movie. We witnessed Spidey teaming up with Iron Man in “Captain America: Civil War.” He performed and battled well, even though he is just teen going up against adults. What is he up to, now, and what are Tony Stark’s plans for Peter Parker? "Homecoming" is the first of a possible four amazing Spider-Man movies.

“War for the Planet of the Apes” – July 14th

The apes are at war with the humans. While watching the movie, the fans get to see how Caesar would react to the humankind. Caesar has tried to maintain his peace in the previous films. Will he be able to not budge? What will he do to save the apes?

“The Emoji Movie” – August 4th

In 2014, there was “The Lego Movie.” Last year, we viewed “The Angry Birds Movie.” This year, we get a movie starring our favorite emojis. Next year, will there be a movie for memes?

“The Nutt Job 2: Nutty by Nature” – August 14th

Here is another family friendly movie that adults can enjoy. Well, I know I will because I loved the first film. I am excited about this film. I am more excited to see this than “Cars 3” and the newest Smurfs movie.

“It” – September 8th

With the recent clown scares in 2016, a movie about a horrifying clown may not be a good idea. If you love horror movies, then “It” will be it. I am predicting that “It” will be the second best horror movie of the year. Be prepared to be scared.

“Kingsman: The Golden Circle” – October 6th

Compared to all the movies on the list, this movie may be the most underrated movie. It will be an action-packed spy movie. It may be one of those sequels that you can still enjoy even if you have not seen the first film.

Fourth Quarter:

“Friday the 13th” – October 13th

“Friday the 13th” will be released on Friday, October 13th. The film’s producers perfectly planned this. I predict that it will be the third best horror film of the year. Jason Voorhees is back to terrorize Camp Crystal Lake.

“Saw: Legacy” – October 27th

Finally, we have another “Saw” movie. The movie will consist of new characters, a few reprising characters, and more traps. Continuing the legacy, there may be a life lesson to learn that shows how we all have something missing in our lives.

“Thor: Ragnarok” – November 3rd

When Team Iron Man was battling against Team Captain America, Thor and Hulk were missing in action. Thor was handling business in Asgard. Hulk’s whereabouts were unknown but speculated to be near Thor. Things in Asgard may be pretty hectic because Doctor Strange had to be recruited by Thor. Hopefully, this movie sets the tone for a future Planet Hulk movie.

“Justice League” – November 17th

Hopefully, you have seen “Wonder Woman” by the time the film is released. If not, then what are you waiting on? The Justice League is here. It will be amazing to see a Justice League vs Suicide Squad battle during the movie, but we may have to hold off on that dream fight to a later movie. Steppenwolf and Darkseid will be the big threats for the Justice League movie, and Lex Luther and Deathstroke will be around, as well. I am curious to see how Batman, Wonder Woman, and their team will solve the issues.

“Coco” – November 27th

If you love Pixar films, then “Coco” is the movie to see. Unlike “Cars 3,” it is an original film. Pixar does an amazing job with alternating between sequels and originals for its movie releases.

“Star Wars: Episode VIII” – December 15th

Yes, there is another Star Wars film being released. I am one of the select few who has never seen even one Star Wars film. I can’t ignore its greatness and legendary success. One day, I may sit down to watch the movies because “Episode VIII” will not be the last movie.

“Jumanji” – December 22nd

The last must-see movie of the year is “Jumanji.” Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Kevin Hart paired up so well to a point we need another movie with their teamwork. Johnson and Hart will be adding Jack Black, Nick Jonas, and Karen Gillan to their adventure in the “Jumanji” world. Many thanks goes to Robin Williams for his creativity in the original movie. If it wasn’t for him, we may not have this one.

I may not see every movie on the list, but there are several movies that I refuse to miss out on.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!

RBF, or resting b*tch face, is a serious condition that many people suffer from worldwide. Suffers are often bombarded with daily questions such as "Are you OK?" and "Why are you so mad?" If you have RBF, you've probably had numerous people tell you to "just smile!"
