Life really isn't like the movies.

Movies That Gave Me Unrealistic Expectations for My Life
TODAY

I have always loved watching movies. As a kid, I imagined myself to be the main character in all the films I watched, which might be the reason why I thought my life would be like those films. Here is a list of movies I really thought my life would be like, until reality slapped me in the face.

1. Bring it On

As a little girl, I really thought that I would grow up to be a sassy cheerleader in high school, have cheer-offs, and get to tell off the enemy cheerleaders. It's probably a good thing this never happened to me in high school though.

2. High School Musical

I also thought that I would fall in love with a hot star basketball player and we would be in musicals and it would be great. I couldn't have been more wrong.

3. Harry Potter

There was a point in my life when I was genuinely convinced that my parents hid my Hogwarts letter from me.

4. The Breakfast Club

I've been in detention. It is not this fun.

5. Crossroads

The movie with Britney Spears where the three best friends go on a road trip after they graduate from high school? I totally thought I would do that. You know what I did the summer after I graduated high school? Watched Netflix.

6. The Notebook (or any Nicholas Sparks book-turned-movie)

No non-fictional, real-life man would spend years building a house for a girl he dated one summer and fell in love with.

7. Mean Girls

Thankfully, I never had to deal with "the plastics" in high school. There weren't any boys that looked like Aaron Samuels either...

8. Pitch Perfect

I had a real fear that I would get a roommate like Kimmy Jen. I also thought a capella groups would be more popular than they are in reality.

9. 22 Jump Street

This movie really made me think college was going to be wild; however, I spend my Friday nights watching Friends reruns.

10. Legally Blonde

After watching this movie, I wanted to be a lawyer. Until I realized it isn't that easy to get into law school... And you can't bring your dog to college.

I'll have to remember not to form expectations on movies!

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
